I picked up the video for the first Pokemon movie for free on the weekend. At the end of the video, Ash says that he say a rare Pokemon the day he set out to become a trainer, and thought he saw one that day (which was, of course, Mew). So, which Pokemon did he see on his first day?

I've never actually seen it - just remember reading in a recap one sad and lonely night (not that only sad and lonely people read recaps, no) and read a mention of it in a FAQ for one of the GameBoy games.

It would be Ho-Oh. Houou is the word for Phoenix in Japan, and according to their culture and mythology, one emerges everytime a holy or grand person is about to make themselves known. Namely, that would be Ash.
Take the odds? ;-) I bet a dollar that it will be DARK! No rain. If only because a years of "that's just what that hick crowd needed - a BATH! HYUCK!"...
