As an old guy who no longer has the time or patience it takes to keep up with let alone learn and play new video games Nintendo cam out with what seemed to be the perfect thing for me, a NES Mini console with 30 preloaded games for sixty bucks. After such a complicated week this seemed like the perfect thing I needed to go back to a simpler time and enjoy some 8 bit action. I stopped at Target a little before ten to pick one up only to find out they had thirty people lined up for nine units. WTF? Amazon had a disaster flash sale at five eastern time yesterday. These things are going for around $200 on eBay. I'm trying to figure out if Nintendo did this on purpose to drive up false demand which is pointless or just really botched what seems like a really simple roll out for something that would get people excited about their product. I'm not going to war for one, the market will be flooded at some point. I am annoyed by the absurdity of the situation. I bid on a cheap N64 today, maybe I'll go that route instead.

There will be more of the new NES made and brought in to stores. Nintendo does enjoy the "scarcity" model, as evidenced by their Amiibos, but they aren't profiting themselves from these $200 eBay sales. It's in their best interests to provide enough consoles to meet demand... or at least to come close to meeting demand.

I get all that, but if they had any kind of finger on the pulse they could have charged close to double without the scarcity issues, which is why I wonder what is wrong with Nintendo.

They do this every time. They create hype and then they create press and demand. Magically, more will appear in stores just in time for Black Friday. Then those will sell out. Then a few weeks later, there will be enough to fit the demand.

Part of what's killed that game, at least to hear the guys where I work tell it, is that everyone was waiting for Condition Zero to come out, but it stinks. That, coupled with all the bugs that came with the Steam updates, put a lot of people off.
