“How is it that I am a good actor? What I do is I... pretend to be the person I’m portraying. You’re confused. Case in point: in Lord of the Rings, Peter Jackson comes to me and says ‘I would like you to be Gandalf the Wizard,’ and I said ‘You are aware that I am not really a wizard?’ and Peter Jackson said ‘I would like you to use your acting skills to portray a wizard for the duration of the show.’ So I said ‘Okay’ and then I said to myself ‘Mmm.. How do I do that?’ And this is what I did: I imagined that I was a wizard, and then I pretended, and acted, in that way on the stage. How did I know what to say? The words were written down for me in a script. How did I know where to stand? People told me where to stand." -- Sir Ian McKellen, Extras

It may be a fanboy pick, but I will say Detroit over Montreal.

More importantly, Hershey over Manitoba for the Calder Cup.

I predict: I will watch 3 or 4 games, and say "Why don't I watch more hockey?" and then forget about it again.

I do this every year.

Hockey in HD is one of those things people used to claim would help get more people in the sport.

I think it helps just to have the 16 x 9 screen, to allow more coverage of play on the ice, let alone the clarity of the picture. Maybe people will finally be able to see the puck.

Oh, I totally intend to watch Hockey. I'd also like to be a great soccer fan. After all, white people love the idea of soccer and I think hockey is the same sort of thing.

I speak on behalf of a great number of Canadians when I say this....hockey in HD is awesome. Don Cherry and Ron Maclean in Coaches Corner in HD....? Not so much.

I don't know enough about the NHL or hockey to be able to make a good prediction, but I'm going to predict the Toronto Maple Leafs will make the playoffs, and get eliminated second round in. I am a Leafs fan, but I'm an optimistic one, at that.

As evidenced by Def Leppard lead singer Joe Elliot last night at the NHL opening concert (broadcast on CBC and partly on VS), when he placed the Stanley cup on a stand upside down, and when told about it, said "What do we know? We're soccer boys."

Want to get into hockey? If you play video games - go buy NHL 09, NOW. It is fantastic and it has caused me to get back into the actual sport in a big way.

I perdict that after this (sports.yahoo.com) that Def Leppard will never be allowed to hold the Stanley Cup ever again.

Oh, and the Penguins over the NY Rangers in the East. Calgary over Detroit in the West. And Pittsburgh over the Flames in the finals.

And in Toronto, you're hearing the Na Na Hey Hey Goodbye song. I kinda wish could have gotten rid of Gustavsson, but I'll take what we can get. Too bad we can't trade coaches. I want Ron Wilson gone.
