What amazes me is that the Cardinals, Lions, and Chargers are more than $7 million under the cap yet just plain suck while the Eagles are still $17 million under.
But Roy, talk about the Eagles stocking up on picks. 10 this year, 7 next year (I think that is correct) plus the pick from the Thrash trade and compensation picks for Vincent, Taylor, and Emmons. I am very interested to see how they utilize these picks.

Well, they drafted 2 CB's 2 years ago, Sheppard and Brown, and have been grooming them to be the successors. Both should be fine CB's but they are a bit undersized so the Eagles will probably sign a veteran 6'+ CB to use as matchups dictate. The secondary does not worry me as much as an effective pass rush helps cover any matchup problems.

I'm not too hot on exactly how the compensation works but:
1. Aren't we gonna lose something because we picked up Kearse and Jones in FA though. I'm assuming TO doesn't count because we ended up trading though.
2. And does the fact that Taylor/Vincent were either injured or at times just pants last year (on top of their advancing years) not mean that the picks we'll get for them will be slightly worse?
But damnit why am I being negative. 10 picks, $17m, TO, Kearse..... For once I'm really digging the off season.

1. You only lose picks if you sign someone with a transition or franchise tag.
2. The picks are determined by some archaic, super-sayan, secret formula that rates their first year performance with their new team. So if Taylor and Vincent have great years we will receive better picks but you can't receive anything better than a third round pick.
I agree, this has been an awesome offseason and I cannot wait for the draft.

I'm hoping for a veteran pickup (the Vikes just dumped a pretty good vet, right) to at least be there to supplement Sheppard and Brown. The knock on Sheppard (or was it Brown?) was that he really didn't have a very smart football mind. I'd like to be wrong, and I think Kearse, along with a healthy Hollis Thomas and Derrick Burgess will help with the pass rush, so that the pressure if off of Sheppard/Brown.

Ehh...I don't think Walker's going to help you out. I mean, he's all right, but if you're looking for a guy to play consistantly while your rookies learn to start, he's not it. Unless it's just going to be his time in Minnesota that was just a wash which is entirely possible.
Anyway, It's nice to see the Vikings with so much elbow room. I'd like to think we could trade up in the draft, actually make our pick this year, and make a few more good defensive acquisitions. I'd preferably like another D-Lineman to go with Hovan and Williams, but I'm not picky.
