According to the NFLPA President, it's a possibility.

I can see this happening. The NFL is obviously trying to make cash, but the replacement refs have been shown to be grossly unprepared for preseason football. When things are turned up a notch and games count, the inexperience would be a safety issue for the players.

DeMaurice Smith and the NFLPA essentially had their testicles ripped out in one motion with the latest CBA. They're going to eat this and like it.

But the owners might want to settle this sooner than later. Think guys like Jerry Jones or Dan Snyder will stay quiet if one of these scabs swings a game the other way on a bad call in a competitive division?

The real problem is when the refs get someone hurt by not blowing a play dead fast enough. Its going to be a hard sight for the NFL when Harrison rips off Flacco's head after being on him for a minute or two. Anyone else see the Giants/Pats game take forever due to them fucking the calls. The fans were all over them as was the coaches. They need to get the regular ones back and stop acting like spoiled rich assholes. The refs don't even make up 1% of the NFL's expenses, give them a raise and some pension. You can make it up by charging people an extra 50 cents for Coke or Beer.

It will take exactly one week of regular-season bullshit from the replacement referees to start a full-scale outcry for the regulars to return. Coaches are under an unofficial gag order right now but some have already tested it, and it'll take just one loss due to a blown call for some (several) to blow a gasket. Some players have already spoken about and tweeted their displeasure about the new refs to boot.

This is a great point. The NFL spends all offseason talking about the renewed focus on player safety and then they put every player in what amounts to an unsafe working environment?

Finally, some good news out of Dolphins camp. The team's website is reporting that Chris Chambers has signed an extension that will take him through the 2009 season. Hopefully this is a sign that things are gonna turn around heading into the year.
