I noticed during the race yesterday that Kevin Conway's pit road banner (XtenZe-themed, naturally) has a big ol' "37" in the middle of it. Talk about your poor pre-planning.

I defy you to show me exactly where on Jayski RIGHT NOW it tells you which car David Gilliland is driving this week.

Hmmmm. I feel like you and I are communicating on different levels. Mostly because you (a) don't get my hilarious joke (b) are telling me about things I've known about for years (c) obviously didn't understand my most recent question AND (d) didn't actually answer it.

I know what the 71 car looks like, thanks. My question is WHERE on Jayski does it say that Gilliland's back in the 71 for the Coke Zero 400? The correct answer is: it does not. The further answer is: that wasn't even really the point of the websites. It's a fun commentary on the constant number switching amongst the three Front Row Motorsports drivers and I am well aware that MAYBE jjd is the only one who'd care enough to find this amusing. But I had six bucks burning a hole in my pocket and an intense desire to waste a few hours on Sunday putting together some websites.

To put this in terms more folks here might understand, this is a bit like someone lamenting: "Man, I wish CRZ had recapped tonight's RAW" and you answering them by saying "Hey, have you heard about http://slashwrestling.com/?" and then they say "That site doesn't say ANYTHING about TONIGHT'S show" and then you say "The RAW recaps are at http://slashwrestling.com/raw get it 'slash raw!'" and then they put you on ignore. But I could NEVER ignore YOU.

I didn't want to let you down.

EDIT: NASCAR.com's entry list has the 71 as TBA, but the Twitterverse says Gilly is in the 71.

What's funny is that in February at Daytona it was John Andretti in the 34, Travis Kvapil in the 37, and Robert Richardson in the 38, with Kevin Conway not eligible to run on a restrictor-plate track, and David Gilliland in the 49 for BAM. After the 500 the Front Row line-up was going to be Kvapil (34), Conway (37), and Gilliland (38), with Richardson driving plate races in the 38 while Gilly drove the 49, but now that's all a mess with the FRM driver swapping and BAM's failure to qualify for the 500 forcing them to skip the rest of the season.

Hopefully they let Gilliland run the whole race in the 71 because he's a decent plate-racer.

Gilly's out of the 71 - Ford won't let him drive a Chevy is the spinned excuse, but there's probably also some intrigue regarding letting him potentially drive a bubble team with while the three FRM teams orbit the bubble as well that someone with a cooler head decided to avoid.

Richardson was always in the 38 (well...the 37 now) for the plate races due to the Mahindra sponsorship, which is real sponsorship like the (ahem) ExtenZe sponsorship and UNlike the phantom Taco Bell/Long John Silvers/A&W sponsorship Jenkins is using. But you probably knew all this.

http://whichcarisdavidgillilandinthisweek.info/ has been duly updated!

I guess this week I'll root for......Steve Park! YEAH!

Where did you hear that? A search for "Gilliland" on Twitter reveals...no updates, and Jayski's now got Gilly in the 71 for Saturday night.

The whole situation is very odd. The 71 is 35th in owners points. If FRM were devious, they would let David drive that car so he could seek out the 26 car (36th in owners points) and wreck both of them, giving the 38 car (123 points behind 35th) a chance to crack the top-35.

And if you're using "that car is in the top-35 so we don't want David in it" as the (unstated) rationale for keeping him out of that car, are you (a) not factoring in that SOMEONE is going to be in that car for qualifying and (b) if you are THAT respectful of David's talents as a plate racer why not put in a FOURTH Front Row car for this race so that he might bump out one of those bubble teams from the field?

Looks like Mike Bliss in the 71 this week. I think I like Mike Bliss more than I dislike TRG, so I'll root for him.

I'd rather they find a cut-off for awarding points, say 20th-place. The points system was originally devised to encourage the guys to be in as many races as possible, but that's not a problem the way the sport has evolved.
