I'm glad they got rid of the word "Champion" on it. Too many words for people to read. It's like we were supposed to be Einstein or something, having to read our belts. Now I never have to learn how to read.
the side plates imply Brock is indeed winning at Summerslam
"Tattoos are the mullets of the aughts." - Mike Naimark
"Don't stop after beating the swords into ploughshares, don't stop! Go on beating and make musical instruments out of them. Whoever wants to make war again will have to turn them into ploughshares first" - Yehuda Amichai
I remember from interviews that when they ask for a new title belt they also request a list of nameplates and side plates so that they don't spoil anything.
There's probably custom plates already made for Cena, Orton, Reigns, Lesnar, etc that are interchangeable.
It's still a gaudy corporate logo. It hardly seems fitting for a weary, exhausted combatant to hoist a diamond-studded Nike Swoosh over his head, so why would this be any different? It's yet another example of WWE's complete incapcity to know the difference between effective branding and transparent, nauseating shilling that puts one in mind of late-night sex chat commercials.
I loved the big gold belt - (so much I wrote a column about it 12 years ago - http://www.oowrestling.com/columns/littlethings/20011203.shtml), and would have loved to see that design retained, BUT, given that, of course, the WWE is going to put some form of their logo prominently on the belt, I have to say, this looks like kind of a best-case scenario. It's clean, it's simple, it doesn't use non-metallic color (a pet peave of mine in title belts) looks as classy as it can with a logo on it, and doesn't look trinket-ish, but like something that might legitimately hold 6-figures worth of material.
There's two faint lines across the bottom of the belt that I really hope are some kind of effect of the photo, not part of the belt. That would be my only complaint. But I'll wait to see it up close.
From what I've read, every belt will be redesigned to incorporate the big W logo in one way or another. Hopefully that means the end of the copper tag belts.
I hope they don't screw with the IC Belt too much. The old school design rocks, and I'd hate to see it rejected for something less appealing.

The IC belt HAS to get rid of the white leather backing. Other than that I agree, it's got a great design, and gets a pass on using a non-metallic color cause it's the blue for the ocean in the map of the world. The US belt, on the other hand, needs a complete revamp. As does the Diva's belt, but somehow I think that's not happening.

I'd say a surprise entrant in the Smackdown cruiserweight battle royal could be Hurricane, only because he's a Raw competitor so he the fans wouldn't expect him.
