The news channel MSNBC has fired Michael Savage who hosts the show "The Savage Nation". He apparently told a caller to "...get AIDS and die, you pig!" I have seen the show on MSNBC and I'm shocked that it took him this long to get fired. He has some weird points of view, well to me anyway.

Homer: Oooh, that's bad.
Shopkeeper: But it comes with a free Frogurt!
Homer: That's good!
Shopkeeper: The Frogurt is also cursed.
Homer: That's bad.
Shopkeeper: But you get your choice of toppings!
Homer: That's good!
Shopkeeper: The toppings contain potassium benzoate.
[Homer looks puzzled.]
Shopkeeper: That's bad.
Homer: Can I go now?

Hmm...I want to choose my words carefully here...

Savage was not a very tolerant person as it related to homosexuals. His comments were extremely tasteless and his removal after saying what he did was inevitable. What he said was like a sick way of wishing death on a person and that just shouldn't come out of a supposed "professional's" mouth.

Through hellfire and makeup, it's...uh...THIS GUY!

All together now:

...awwwww.

MSNBC got exactly what they should've expected from Savage -- a few months of Morton Downey Jr. 2003, but without the LoudMouth podiums, followed by the expected controversy when he let loose with the same bilge he spews on his radio show. He will now return to his radio show, where he will likely scream for weeks about having been censored, blackballed and molested by the EvilLeftWingLiberalMediaHomosexualAgendaCommunistAtheistAmericaHaters who are working to destroy our nation and are in league with Al-Qaeda.

Meanwhile, the rest of the world will continue on schedule.

(For my money, let him scream. If he wants to get in front of a national audience and hold up a big red sign reading "HI, I'M A FLAMING ASS WITH ZERO CREDIBILITY," fine by me.)

EDIT: I will say this -- Michael Savage has done the impossible, and inspired me to do something that I almost never do.

That would be listening to the Don & Mike show, because apparently it was one of their prank callers that got Savage's diatribe rolling. Who'da thunk it?

Very nicely written, and it is scary when G. Gordo looks good compared to anyone

But having spent too much time around enough Michael Savage clones in my life (in a previous political life I ran my university's pro-life group and the campus branch of Phyllis Schlafly's Eagle Forum), I think I can say some people just get their head wedged too far up their arse.

and maybe I should open up my sensitive side/but really, the sensitive side sucks./I've been there./You can only imagine the kinds of sweaters they make you wear.

Normally, I'm not thrilled with anyone losing their job for controversial statements, no matter if I agree with them or not. Certainly MSNBC knew what they were getting when they hired this stupid asshole bigot, and it seems a little wrong to wind up firing him for being a stupid asshole bigot.

However, after his lawsuits against Take Back The Media and other sites attacking him, it's clear that Michael Wiener is not a huge fan of free speech, so the whole thing is only appropriate.

And, of course, if his ratings weren't scraping the basement floor, MSNBC would've kept him on the air no matter what kind bile flew out of his mouth.

Don't be ridiculous. It has nothing to do with free speech. The stupid bastard embarrassed the network and he was fired for it. Thats that. This is a common misconception of people who don't work in radio/TV. You do not have freedom of speech when you are on the air. You are representing the network/station. So if you say something idiotic, they can/will fire you.

Besides, Savage is STILL on 300 radio stations. I very much doubt his freedom speech is that hampered because his talk show on MSNBC is over and done with.

I am glad Savage got fired. And this is from someone who listens to Rush, Medved, and some other local conservative talk show hosts and usually agrees.
I never liked Savage's rants. They were rude and he used them to get himself out of an arguement. Anytime anyone disagreed with him they were drug using hippie commie traitors.
Also they always came across as forced. Like he was saying these things to make himself outrageous. To get liberal groups pissed off at him so he could get more publicity.
