The Carmelo Anthony trade saga is finally over.
The Nuggets traded Melo to the New York Knicks tonight, a league source said. Denver gets Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari, Timofey Mozgov, the Knicks 2014 first-round draft pick, the Warriors' 2012 second-round pick, the Warriors' 2013 second-round pick and $3 million in cash.
Anthony will go to New York, along with Chauncey Billups, Shelden Williams, Anthony Carter and Renaldo Balkman.
Anthony was not at the Nuggets' practice as the team resumed workouts following the All-Star break.
I feel like there's more to this than has been reported...at least for the Warriors.
Also, even though the Timberwolves apparently aren't in on this deal, I think we can still expect some form of a Randolph-for-Brewer trade coming this week.
It seems as if Mozgov hasn't been the same since he became the victim of the Poster Child aka Dunkbot 3000, so that's not a big loss. Nice that the Knicks were able to deal picks that weren't their own (for once).
The real question is how this sets up the Knicks for the next big free agent period. And if the new CBA will do anything to prevent this kind of thing again (Carmelo actively meeting teams).

This is a Knicks squad that really grew on me this year. They weren't going to win a title but they were a solid, if not flawed team. I really don't think they were that far off from being legit. I would have rather they used the Curry contract for a B level player and changed to a more conventional coach who wasn't set on blowing out Amare's knees in year one.
That being said having two big stars is nice going forward, maybe now they can just mix in low cost vets who want to play with these guys in the big city.
I also wonder if a guy like Melo is even a winner. I haven't been impressed with how he's handled all of this and I get a strong T-Mac vibe from him.
I'm really going to miss Gallinari. He really was a New York type of guy.
Having Renaldo Balkman's stoned looking ass back on the bench was an unexpected bright spot in this whole thing.

From various sources, it looks like the Wolves DO have a part in this trade, sending Brewer to New York and taking Randolph and Curry (who will immediately be waived) and I think there's some cash involved in there as well. I'm gonna miss Corey - I hope Kahn's right about Randolph (and, you know, with his track record, he'll be right about something EVENTUALLY ;-) )

Except instead of Pat Riley, you have Isiah Thomas. :(

League sources told ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher that the Nuggets are not expected to keep Gallinari once their three-team trade is completed.
ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard reported that the New Jersey Nets may be interested in acquiring the perimeter-shooting forward but the market for the Italian may also include the Los Angeles Clippers, Cleveland Cavaliers and Toronto Raptors.
There is also talk that the Nuggets are considering dealing Felton. Sources have told Stein that the Nuggets are confident they could get a first-round pick for the point guard while other sources have told Stein and Bucher that Denver may hold off until closer to the draft to attempt to flip Felton or hang on to the veteran point guard.
If you're Gallinari, I'm sure you're thrilled to be going from the Knicks (good situation) to the 'Melo-less Nuggets (ok, decent situation) to either the Clippers (groan), the Raptors (GROAN), or the Cavaliers (GROAN!!!).

Baron Davis, Eric Gordon, Chris Kaman, Blake Griffin and Gallinari (who my coworker's told me has Dirk written all over him in a number of languages)? I'm eatin' it.

I was pretty high on Gallinari myself until hearing from others more familiar with him that he is horribly inconsistent. But when he is on, he is most certainly on.

The Timberwolves also sent third center Kosta "the Man in the Mask" Koufos to the Nuggets and are getting an unprotected second round 2015 pick in return.
I'll miss Koufos much less than I'll miss Brewer. :)

Don't sleep on Eric Bledsoe. He's not a superstar yet, but he's going to be a good NBA player. He's an athletic freak with a fairly good jumper.
... and don't sleep on a PG in the D'Antoni system. This is a system that made Chris Duhon viable, and Chauncey Billups might be the best PG for this system since Steve Nash.
