The Green Bay Packers Monday acquired quarterback J.T. O'Sullivan and a second-round selection in the 2005 draft from the New Orleans Saints for cornerback Mike McKenzie and a future conditional draft choice, GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman announced.
While I know we need him on the field, I guess I'm glad to see him gone.

Good move for the Pack, IMO. McKenzie wasn't going to make a difference in that sorry Packer D and Pederson looked horrible in relief of Favre yesterday.
We'll have to wait for Thrill to weigh in (which he will inevitably do)... :)

My take: McKenzie was a cancer. I hate to give him what he wants, but barring a Ty Law-esque complete face turn, he had to go. Sure, the defense sucks without him...but that's only since he's been back...hmmm...
Hell, the main problem with that D is the ridiculous amount of rushing yardage we're giving up. Tiki Barber is one helluva back, mind you, but Thomas Jones? From Da Bears? Jesus, without Grady Jackson, there's no run D at all.
That puts the onus on the secondary, which has known problems. Add to that the injury stopping the new kid, Ahmad Carroll, from getting any playing time or any kind of seasoning, and you're stuck with Burnt Toast Hawthorne. Hell, Bhawoh Jue's almost a better option at this point.
(Pause for obligatory "Ye gods" grumbling to the sky here.)
As for this guy...
Brand-new Packer J.T. O'Sullivan, The Great White Hope
...I remember hearing the same "he was great in NFL Europe" hype about Craig Nall. Nall looked a helluva lot better than Pederson on Sunday...but that was against NYG's prevent defense.
OK, getting off track again. Bottom line: McKenzie wasn't gonna be any help in the sieve-condary, so a 2nd round pick and The Great White Hope are a pretty good prize to get rid of his worthless self.
Oh, and Favre's gonna be OK. The secondary ain't.
Star wipe, and...we're out. Thrillin' ain't easy.

At least you know getting a second round pick from the Saints it will be in the low-mid 40's, as they will find a way no matter what to finish 7-9/8-8.
I like this quote: "We probably should have gone to Craig a little sooner." Uhhhh I GUESS so.
Hey our LAST win was on a Monday?
A four game loss streak seems almost unfathomable...and yet...boy did Grey suck.
(Most of these thoughts are stolen from the IM conversation I had with Toolbox)
Too bad Grey had such a bad day, 'cause he's a helluva guy. Even last year, when nobody had heard of him, he was out and about promoting reading in local schools. Class individual. Plus Mark Tauscher gave Grey a vote of confidence on Monday Night Kick-off (our live hour-long football show preceding MNF). Here's hoping he gets it together vs. the Tennessee Tuxedos.
As for Pederson, if he does go on the IR, we might end up having to go to Nall a lot sooner...he'd be the #2 guy, and the last 2 straight games, the backup QB has had to come in in relief of Favre. Better prep that "Great White Hope" O'Sullivan kid quick, Sherman...
Oh, and in order to engineer a little hope around here for Monday night, here's your Non-Relevant Stat of the Day:
Packers record w/o McKenzie: 1-0 Packers record w/ McKenzie: 0-3
Hopefully yours truly didn't jinx it when I appeared on a local TV taping last night, handicapping Week 5, and picking the Pack to win Monday.
Cross your fingers, cheeseheads...

Pederson isn't that good to begin with, add to that obvious signs he was way off (and having broken ribs) yet they kept him in the game!... Really no matter who you put out there the drop off won't be that bad then a healthy Pederson let alone an injured Pederson.
Once again shows The Packers coaching defines incompetence.
smark/net attack wienerville advisory holds at ORANGE alert - High (JBL is STILL WWE champion and now smarks arch enemy HHH is the World Champion. Major red threat, but the undercard seems okay. The alert holds... for now)- 9/19

See, as a Pack fan, I want to agree with you. Pederson isn't that good. Broken ribs aren't going to help. But you can't put Favre in, because he's loopy. And you can still win the game (down by a touchdown with one quarter to go).
I can see the justification there for not going to a third-string kid who's had no real experience to speak of--when you've got a chance to win the game, you go with someone who's actually been there before. If GB had been down by two touchdowns or more, on the other hand, I like to think we would have seen someone else at QB.

Now adding to this is that Pederson ALSO has/had a muscle pull in his back, how the he!! wasn't Nall on the field already? We've probably seen the last of Pederson, by the way. He'll go on IR (we can't keep carrying 4 QBs and 2 punters), and then not make it back next year.
