Apple finally made the long-awaited announcement of a release date for their next version of OS X - version 10.4 is also known as Tiger, following the tradition of big cat names for X (10.0 was Cheetah, 10.1 Puma, 10.2 Jaguar and 10.3 Panther - no, I had to look them up, too).

Anyway, their new preview page also went up yesterday - Check it out at http://www.apple.com/macosx/overview/.

I should have posted this yesterday, but I think I was too busy yelling at someone else for posting old, outdated information. ;-)

This page is kind of buried in the rest of it, but it is interesting nonetheless... http://www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/requirements.html

Note that the Mac Mini is listed as compatable hardware. Now, this is interesting because when it was released many people said that it would not support all of the features of Tiger -- but there isn't an asterisk showing limited support.

Did they get everything working on it, or are they just not telling the entire story here with the supported computers list?

Willful ignorance of science is not commendable. Refusing to learn the difference between a credible source and a shill is criminally stupid.

Well, my flat-panel iMac is supported, but I'm wondering if its meager 800MHz is going to be enough to run Tiger effectively.

I'm still using the original G4/400 MHz with 320 MB RAM, and every new version of OSX has run better on this machine than the previous version. I'm running 10.3.9 right now, and I'll probably make the switch to 10.4 pretty quickly. Of course, if I get the job I'm looking at right now, I'll celebrate by switching to a Mini and load Tiger onto that.

I used to peruse Sportspages.com, a veritable cornucopia of sports links, including team sites, national and global newspapers, and the local papers for every team in every major sport.
