1) Jack 2) Kate 3) Hurley 4) Syed (I'm thinking he didn't die in a helicopter crash) 5) Aaron (!?!?!?!) 6) ??
Neat to hear some of the story they've been telling the public since their return, and I wonder what Jack saying 8 were on the island meant. I don't think it can be a reference to Michael and Walt (since the boat would be hard to explain - everything is hard to explain with them and I wonder how they've done it). I guess Claire has to have died on the island to explain Aaron, assuming they're using an explanation we're even sorta familiar with.
I like Ben asking "Why 3 POINT TWO million?" much more than I like Locke sticking a grenade in a guy's mouth and walking away.
Kate might be the blandest and probably the most gullible of all the characters on the show. I know Hurley is the fool, but Miles told her pretty much all she needed to know about what he knew about her in the boat house. She really didn't need to make a face to face meeting with him and Ben.
Nice fake though on the whole baby angle. I thought Kate told Jack that she knew why he didn't want to see the baby because it was Sawyers, but maybe he knows it's his niece?
I guess the three questions I came away with are ...
Where is the helicopter? What's up with the blackmail? Did Kate steal Aaron or did something happen to Claire?
Since everyone thought that she was Aaron's mom, maybe he doesn't count as one of the six? I keep forgetting that we (viewers) know for certain that Jack and Claire are brother/sister, but they don't actually know. I am sure that Ben's saving that nugget for a rainy day.
I was really into Hugo finding a pair, standing up to Jack, comforting Claire, and kinda/almost standing up to Locke...but he's back to total idiot now, which was disappointing. I just didn't get the usual "holy crap" from this episode. Usually the big reveal at the end is a total shock to me, but I had guessed this one, even though I'd thought it was somewhat plausible that she lied to Sawyer about not being pregnant, but there really hasn't been much of a reason that we've seen yet that Jack would have some sort of venemous hatred for Sawyer. Not that it couldn't come sooner or later, but not enough to guess that it was his kid, and actually Kate's.
Does anyone have a grasp, or opinion, about how much time between "the now" (92 days or so on the island) and these flash forward? I mean, it HAS to be years later, at least judging my how much older Aaron is...

Yep.
At the trial, Jack says that the plane crashed on an island in the South Pacific - implying that this is the story that the public at large is told - but the newscast (from 4x2) says the wreckage was found in the Indian Ocean? Seriously, what the fuck?
What was up with Charlotte and Dan's card game?
Claire was told a long time ago that she MUST be the one to raise Aaron, so what are the consequences of Aaron being "raised by another?"

We know very little about this time differential that was illustrated last week, but maybe Aaron ages "normally" once off the island, as Walt appears to have done. Maybe not that much time has passed.
Does nobody mourn on that island? It always bothered me that Hurley got over Libby so quick, and Sayid over Shannon, and everyone over Michael killing two people in cold blood and then turning four more over to the Others - but Jesus Christ, in the show's timeline didn't Claire find out Charlie died yesterday? Two days ago at the most? I understand the show not wanting to dwell on former cast members, but come fucking on.
Otherwise, this season is firing on all cylinders this year. So glad we're getting (most of) the back half sooner than later.
From a recent interview I believe the writers have said that the Kate/Jack airport meeting takes place like a year and a half after their time on the island. So not much time has passed really.
As for Claire being told she had to raise that child, let's remember two things:
1. The man who told her that admitted he was a fraud to Ecko.
2. Who's to say he wasn't paid to tell her that and get her on that flight?
Aaron had to be *Kate's* baby. I don't understand how he'd be old enough to testify, but was the way they were building up the mystery of who-is-Kate's-baby?, he was the only logical choice. Plus, after last week's "The day I trust Ben is the day I sell my soul," we got another telegraph when Kate declined Claire's offer to hold Aaron.
This disappoints me. Despite wmtastic's reasons above, I still hoped that the whole "He must not be raised by Another." would ring true. Then again, maybe Kate isn't supposed to have Aaron. If this means that Claire dies in the coming episodes, I'll be very disappointed.
I like how Jack fessed up about lying about not loving Kate. And at least Kate's defense makes sense, given she can take the Oceanic settlement as her defense fund for such a high profile case. (Where did I recognize the laywer from?)
As for on island events, Sawyer conning Locke was predictable, but I'm surprised Locke was so forgiving of Sawyer. Locke should have banished both of them. (That said, Locke telling Kate "you're not welcome here," was hysterical. Locke is such a vindictive benevolent leader.) Locke sharing his crisis of leadership with Sawyer was touching, but also misplaced. If Locke knew that in his absence Hurley appointed Sawyer as beach-president, I wonder if he'd keep him around.
The mystery of who-is-Benjamin-Linus thickens with the whole $3.2 million extortion, which was a funny exchange. Ben has to be the most intimidating, frustration, and hilarious character on the show all at once. I look forward to the series finale when all is revealed about him.
You believe me, don't you? Please believe what I just said...
I love how Ben is locked away in a room with Locke constantly guarding him and there is NO WAY he can get 3.2 million dollars in 2 days. Oh, but one week? No sweat.
When Kate was being shuffled through the courthouse crowd, there was one dude who stood out. He was grizzled, and the camera kinda focused on him for a second as he loomed into the view. I wonder if he'll tie in later.
Boring episode. Looks like next week will be off the charts. In the promo, I could've sworn that was short-haired Desmond fighting Daniel in a classroom. Think they know each other from before?

I would think it's more like the "time" he ran into Charlie playing on the street.
You have to think that Locke, an experienced game player, would've realized that Hugo was not the best person to handle the duty of going to the secret holding station where Miles was. I'm pretty sure that he let Kate and Sawyer think that they had outsmarted him so he could let another corner unfold with this 3.2 million situation. Look for Locke and Ben to be working together full-on within two weeks.
Oh, and now that Kate's a celebrity, how good are the chances that we run into her husband again somewhere down the road? Awk-wardddd! (/Stewart)
Oh (2), and also don't be surprised if the chopper shows up just fine and on time on the freighter, despite the lostaways thinking its been like a week or so. Time fuck.
Finally, I think given Jack's unwillingness to see Aaron, and the way he conducts himself after saving that woman and her son(!) from the car seems to signify that Jack had a similar situation happen on the island where Claire and Aaron were in trouble/dying and Jack could only choose one to save. If we believe that Claire is dead, Jack obviously failed in his own mind to save her. We've seen that Jack isn't exactly the best one at admitting that things aren't his fault (see: Boone). Therefore, the reason Jack doesn't want to see Aaron and be with Kate is the reminder of who he didn't rescue Claire.

I was thinking more it was a more simple case of short term memory issues after falling from the helicopter. Maybe I shouldn't assume anything is simple.

The "pop up video" version of the episode where we met all the freighties said that the woman who asked Daniel why he was crying was a caretaker, and Miles referred to him as a headcase; my guess is that hes some sort of Russel Crowe in a "Beautiful Mind" type character and they're trying to see if the island repairs whatever is "off" in his head.
I also just got this week's Entertainment Weekly, and thanks to WGA strike delaying filming on Lost and killing off the show Cane, Nestor Carbonell will now be available to play Richard Alpert again. Get psyched.

I agree about Claire and Charlie, but Hurley probably only knew Libby for a few days, or a week maybe? So I guess it was a little easier. How long did Sayid know Shannon? A month? Even if you do start liking someone, in that situation of survival, you move on quickly I would assume.

This season seems to be going for an Eccleston-like uninterrupted series of adventures, which I can't say I mind the slightest bit. As for this episode, holy shit it was so good.
