Kind of a weird episode, and dare I say it, un-Lostlike to have just three characters as the focus of all the attention. At least Sayid, Sun and Jin will get in on the action next week.

I gotta say, the first part of the show before the LOST logo was VERY cool. The revealing of Not-Henry-Gale's first name was....curious. I feel as though I have totally had my fill of Jack flashbacks though, and it was a little disappointing to see only Jack, Kate, Sawyer, "Ben", Juliette, Mr. Friendly, and Escape-Boy. Zeke definitely looks less cool sans beard, however.

If I remember correctly it was like that last year too, we didn't find out what happened to the castaways on the raft until the second episode. Emilie de Ravin just said on Jimmy Kimmell tonight that she won't be appearing until Episode 3. Now it might just be that she doesn't show up because she's not in every episode but I wonder if it's going to be episode 3 before we see anything on the other side of the island. So it might be a while before we find out what happened to Eko and Locke.
I tire of the Jack-centric stories, but oh well. I too loved the opening. Nice little riff on last year's opening. I can only look forward to how they start season 4 now. As for the rest of the episode, it was typical Lost. I don't really think that finding out Henry Gale is named Ben is a big revelation. I am surprised that Sarah's boyfriend is not someone we recognize. (Or do we and I just wasn't paying attention?) One would think that he'll show up in another flashback here or there. Aside from their pleasant little village, it should be fun to learn just what the Others know about everyone, and how they came to know all that. I also look forward to learning why Jack was separated from Kate and Sawyer. Does Tom's comment mean that Sawyer and Kate are in what was formerly the polar bear cages?

I was certain the beginning scene ("Pleasantville" as someone put it) was a Henry/Ben flashback scene. The plane breaking up in the sky looked pretty fake and cheesy, but then again I don't watch Lost for CGI effects. Henry/Ben ordering Goodwin and Ethan to catch up with the plane sections was good, it showed him being a quick and effective leader.
The Jack flashbacks were interesting, they showed why Jack needs to be in control as much as possible. When things are out of his control and unknown to him he totally flips out.
The next two weeks will be very unpleasant? I wonder what is going to happen, some sort of medical/psychological experiments? And who in the hell is the other caged dude?
I'm glad we got to see Jack, Kate, and Sawyer only in the episode, because they have the more interesting "right off the bat" story. Now that those questions are answered, we can move on to see what happened with Sayid/Jin/Sun, Hurley and Locke/Eko. It was good to have the season premiere be about the three "main characters" of the show.
I'm going to watch the episode again on abc.com because I was somewhat distracted last night and don't think I paid attention to it as much as I wanted to. But the real reason is to probably just see Kate in that sundress again.

It was wicked awesome, though my viewing was somewhat tainted by this knowledge: I found out yesterday (thanks, USA Today) that M.C. Gainey, the actor who plays Tom (Zeke, Mr. Friendly) was also the fat, naked dude who chases Miles in Sideways. EWWWWWWW

Lost had parallels to Watership Down after we saw Sawyer reading that book. Now I wanna know which Stephen King book may be a template for this season. My guess is The Stand with its Charlie, Hurley, and Henry parallels and similarities to two camps of survivors.

And then it went RIGHT back to the meandering pointlessness of Season 2.
I know this show is in love with its own aura of mystery, but would it kill them to answer ONE of the season ending clifhangers? All we learned here was that yes, Jack, Sawyer, and Kate are indeed being held captive by The Others. Woo. Oh, and Henry Gale is named Ben. DUN DUN DUN!!!
I'm not out completely, but it's no longer appointment TV. I'll DVR it and maybe get around to watching if I hear SOMETHING happened.
Actually, I think the revelations are coming much faster now. In this episode, we first see the cages and within the same episode, we were told the polar bears used to be there. Alrighty. Then we're showed a new hatch, and immediately told it is called "The Hydra." We get Henry's real name. We meet a new major character. We see the Others compound and get their reaction to the crash. We see Ethan and Goodwin sent to the wreckage (interesting that Ben told Ethan to just "observe and not interfere"...makes me wonder if kidnapping Claire was something he did entirely on his own). I think that's a HUGE step up in revelation-rate. Previous seasons would have shown the cages and 25 episodes later someone would have said "Them bears used to be in thaar!"

Well I liked it. I tired of the Jack flashbacks but this actually showed the beginning of the end for Jack and his fathers relationship. It also show that Jack always has to be in control.
The other's village was a jawdropper . I thought that at the very beginning it was a flashback of Juliet. And then the "earthquake" and you see the plane tear apart. It makes you wonder why they were there is it a scientific thing or what. It seems like they were waiting for a plane crash.
And hopefully it won't be a running theme to start of each season with terrible music. While the visual was better than Desmond last year, but I hate the music.
It seemed to me like there were way too many commercials. And according to my cable guide, next week focuses on Jin, Sun and Sayid and the week after that shows the rest of the survivors.
Yeah, the Jack flashbacks are kinda repetitive, but when he was talking to Sarah about her lawyers, I would have loved to see a quick Crane, Poole, & Schmidt reference, a little subtle nudge to Bowen's work on Boston Legal.
Me too. I didn't put two and two together that it was the same actress until last nights show. And she also played the PGA Tour publicist on Happy Gilmore way back when.
They want to deliver vast amounts of information over the internet. And again, the internet is not something you just dump something on. It's not a truck.
I enjoyed this ep more than most of the season two roller coaster. I think it is better when they focus more on certain story lines and characters, instead of cramming too much into one show. I do wish we could've learned more about why those 3 were abducted, but I guess there are still twentysomething eps left in the season. Jack's dad's voice on the intercom was quite creepy.
