I got to thinking about this when talking about Bret Hart and Montreal. Assuming Bret didnt actually lose the belt at Survivor Series, then whoever beat him First in WCW would have become the linear WWF champion. Also, when Flair jumped to WWE in 1992, whoever beat him first (via pinfall or submission) would have become linear WCW champion. With that in mind, I wonder who the true linear WWE champion is and who the true linear WCW champion is. Could it have been unified at some point? Keep in mind that the linear title can only change hands via pinfall or submission, or a gimick match loss via whatever stipulation is in that match- and in my opinion only if the linear champ takes the fall, so losses in battle royals, multi person matches where another competitor takes the fall, etc dont count. I know this is out there but might be a fun little exercise if anyone has the time and or energy. I tried google, but couldnt find a satisfactory answer.
You'd have to start before that, at least as far back as Andrew selling the title to DiBiase which then got vacated, arguably back to when Inoki vacated it. I'm not sure who the first person to beat Andre was after he vacated the title, I think it might have been Warrior.
I have some downtime today while my wife does her infusion treatment here at the hospital and have hit a slight snag. There was an event called: USWA A Matter of Pride: Luger vs. Yokozuna, where apparently lex beats Yoko in a non tile but I can’t find information on how. That could make Luger linear champ at that point. If not taker beast yoko at a house show casket match with would count as a linear title win in my book.
yikes. Truth is, if you look up every single title, at some point they all were vacated for some reason or what not. I feel like the true lineal champ would be way further back in time
Personally, I think Billy Kidman has a bigger problem refusing to wear clothing than refusing a storyline. Really, Billy. Put some clothes on, OK?
And Rey will be here on the SD after Vengeance so we won't have to wait long.
