Mascot with deep pockets: Not sure what to make of this: When the NBA fined the Utah Jazz $15,000 for their tasteless Karl Malone-impersonator skit in January, the team forced the Bear mascot to pay half the fine out of his own pocket.
True, the skit was the Bear's idea, all right, but insiders say the front office, including owner Larry Miller, was in on it and OK'd it.
What we want to know: Do mascots really make that kind of dough?

...the hell? The NBA fined the Jazz organization, not any particular individual. Where the hell does Larry Miller get off doing that?
If you ask me, Miller spent years going with Stockton and Malone, and not planning for the future, not going after quality free-agents and not bringing in much young talent. Now he's pissed because Stockton and Malone are gone and the Jazz are made up of Andrei Kirilenko, Carlos Arroyo and 10 guys who suck. And it's only the fact that Jerry Sloan is one of the greatest coaches EVAR~! and has managed to make this team far greater than the sum of its parts that's keeping the Jazz in playoff contention right now.
Feuding with Karl Malone, the most popular superstar in Jazz history, and pullin' shit like this is not gonna endear him to Utah fans who remember the good old days when the pick 'n roll led the Jazz to 58,327 consecutive playoff appearances and back-to-back Western Conference Championships.

I'll have to disagree with Weiss. The 1993-94 Nuggets had zero playoff vets on the roster and ended up shocking the Sonics in the first round (who had the best regular-season record, IIRC) and took the Jazz to seven games.
