The Lakers have taken another bold step to remake their roster, agreeing in principle on a trade that would bring forward-center Kwame Brown from the Washington Wizards and would send Caron Butler and likely Chucky Atkins to Washington.
Brown, 6 feet 11, was drafted No. 1 overall in 2001 and fell on hard times last season with the Wizards, but he has the potential to be an impact post player.
As soon as Phil came back, I knew Butler was gone. I don't get the Wiz wanted Butler to replace Hughes since he's a 3 and they already have Antawn Jamison. As far as Kwame Brown goes, hopefully his attitude will change with a change of scenery. But he's had two years post-Jordan to prove it was MJ's fault why he never reached his potential and let's not forget he left the Wiz high and dry during the playoff run last year.
Odd trade for both the Wiz and the Lakers if it goes through.

They were speculating this trade on the radio yesterday, expect with That Bum Devean George's name in place of Butler's, and I was A-OK with it. Not so much now.
I really like(d) Butler, and I'm not sure why the Lakers were shopping him around in the first place.
Wow. Unless Brown can straighten up and fly right (and I don't think Kobe's a good example for him to live up to), this is a bizarre trade by the Lakers. Good acquisition for the Wiz, though, even if they were only getting Butler. Throw Atkins or George in there, and it's an even better trade.

Not really. Atkins doesnt even TRY to play defense (as opposed to maybe trying but still not being very good at it) and we already know how I feel about That Bum Devean George.

Divac, who averaged 11.8 points, 8.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists during an NBA career that spanned 16 years, had been expected to delay his decision until September 30 but hasn't been able to shake a back injury. One of most popular Serbo-Montenegro basketball players of all time, the 7-footer planned to finish his career back in his homeland with Partizan Belgrade, the club he left to join the Lakers in 1989. But any hopes of an emotional return now appear to be dashed.

He hasnt really given me any new reasons to hate on him (he hasnt given me any reasons to like him either), but I would rather have him retire than keep the Lakers from going for somebody younger while he attempts to pull one last healthy season out of his hat.
Divac, who played only 15 games last season because of back problems, contested a report from a Belgrade news agency that said he had decided to retire.
"Sept. 30, that's when I'm going to decide what I'm going to do," Divac said Friday.
