I love how they blow up the Vet, yet they just announced that Citizen's Bank Park won't be fully ready for the start of the Phillies season. It makes me a little happier that I won't be able to make opening day this year.
Still, it's a bit sad to see the Vet go. It has the best memories for Phillies fans (80 World Series win being the top), even though it was like playing on concrete, full of now-homeless rats, and the site of dozens of career ending injuries.
I guess it was a building only Philadelphia fans could love.

Any truth to the rumors Mitch Williams was asked to give a speech from the pitchers mound in the Vet during the implosion?
Why is TVLand stealing my ideas from DEAN's Workrate Report's? They had to be stealing, as I thought I had the only demented mind that could put Bea Arthur and Abe Vigoda in a sex scene.
As someone who was at the last Phils game in September, I'm kinda sad to see it fall. Philly fans always get a bad rap and I think a lot of it had to do with the stadium. I'll be curious to see if that continues in the new park.

Well, the Linc doesn't have the courtroom, and from the one Eagles game I was at, the fans weren't as evil as usual. My brother in law has season tickets, and he said that the fans were as vocal as usual, but there were less fights and ugly moments in the stands. Of course, that might just be the awe of the new stadium.
The true test for Citizens Bank Park fans will probably be when the Braves come to town. JD Drew is still largely hated (batteries, anybody?), and for some reason, Philly fans also hate Chipper Jones with a passion.

The Phillies plan to paint an outline of the Vet's playing field across the new parking lot, and place granite markers at the former home plate, pitching mound and base locations.

Actually Mitch keeps hanging around town as you always see him on TV and for a while he was the manager of a local minor league team. In fact Mitch was interviewed today during the festivities, don't ask me why. The Vet itself was something i think only Philadelphia fans could love. Seats were bad so was the entire design but it was our house. Vet fact the Eagles and Phillies combined had 85 losing seasons in the Vet and you wonder why we are so cynical.

That's a pretty cool little touch.
Isn't it? The only problem is that I see the markers disappearing on a regular basis and winding up on Ebay or in some drunk's basement.
I really like how Pittsburgh has the old Forbes Field home plate in Posvar Hall, I think. And they still have some walls in place, as well as the spot where Maz's home run landed in the World Series. If it's really the outfield wall (And I'm not sure if it is), then it was 457 feet to center field. Wowsers.

I shot video for one Packer game at the Vet once...the preseason game vs. the Eagles in 2002.
Can't say I was impressed with the place. But hey, it wasn't as big a dump as Network Associates Coliseum in Oakland. :-)
The one good thing about football games in baseball stadiums...more room behind the sidelines for me to move w/ my camera to either end of the field. Things get a little cramped at Lambeau sometimes...but I'll accept that in exchange for Packer wins. :-)
Looking at the Pack's road schedule this year...in addition to Chicago, Detroit and Minnesota, Green Bay's going to...Philly, Washington, Houston, Indy, and Carolina.
So tell this cheesehead which 2 cities I should put in for for my 2004 road trips, will ya!?
Star wipe, and...we're out. Thrillin' ain't easy.

Nah - they got a bad rap when they were still at Connie Mack - see 1964

Go to Philly. The Linc is a very nice stadium, the polar opposite of the Vet.
Are you a professional halfwit or talented amateur?

I agree. Great sight lines, more concession stands than people, great HDTV screens in each end zone, great field surface, the list goes on. Plus, I think the Vet will be a parking lot then, so the traffic issues that popped up last season (and they DID pop up), might be solved. No more parking half a mile away!
His personal highlight is one of mine. The Schilling World Series Victory was amazing. Nobody wanted to leave after the game was over, nor did we want to leave a week earlier when they won the NLCS.

We boo Chipper because he has clobbered the Phils his entire career. There were some stats in the paper over the weekend on the active, visiting players with the best stats @ the Vet. Overall Chipper was probably 2nd behind Bonds (who also owned the Phils throughout his years as a Pirate).
"I'm the best poetic genius since Leapin' Lanny Poffo."
I boo chipper because I have always hated chipper. No other reason. He looks like an arrogant ass with that crooked fucking mouth of his and he plays for Atlanta, what other reasons do you need.
Funny story, every time I would see him on the TV, I would say out loud "FUCK CHIPPER JONES". So, imagine my delight/horror when at her first ballgame at Busch Stadium, when he was announced my then 8 year old daughter asks "is that FUCK Chipper Jones?"
Remember this about Lofton: his teams make the playoffs. Gammons described him last night as "the offensive David Cone" for his knack for being a hired gun for playoff teams.
