Is Tim Couch just that freaking awful, though? He made the Seahawks 2nd string defense look like the Steel Curtain reborn. Doug Pedersen's clipboard duties are safe for 2004, I can tell you that for sure.
It looked just like his Cleveland years...considering our O-line scrubs could pass for Browns starters. Even Mike Sherman said Couch didn't play very well.
Something tells me Brett ain't exactly looking over his shoulder much.
Hell, even I was flipping over to RAW and the Olympics during that mess of a game. Our pass defense still worries me (except for Al Harris), but Grady Jackson was something of a MONSTER stuffing the run inside. Shades of '96 Gilbert Brown. Offense'll be fine.
Here's hoping Craig Nall gets some good looks in the preseason.

Couch has been suffering from a sore arm, and was rumored to be missing the game. Sherman also said that maybe playing him was a mistake.
Seriously, who cares who our number 2 QB is. If Favre goes down to an injury, his loss would mentally crush the team. Doesn't matter who's backing him up, the team would flop.
Actually, I really was expecting him to continue the Cleveland Curse and become a world-beater now that he is free of the Cleveland losing miasma. For once, it is nice to see that trend broken.
As for his arm - if it is the same arm that he injured a year or two ago, I gotta wonder just how well he's gonna hold up for the rest of his career. IIRC, didn't the Pack only sign him for 1 year? If so, good for them.

Yes, they did only sign him for a year...of course I heard they are hoping to get him to sign on for more after this year is up...that is, if he plays better than he did last night. He is new to the West Coast offense, however, so he's bound to be a little green looking. At least, though, if this does continue, the Packers do have an out...

I'm with ya, Thrill...that pass defense of ours still scares me as well (I kept mumbling to myself last night "4th and 26"...as well as "Why did we re-sign Jue again???") You are right about stopping the inside run, props to 3rd string NT James Lee in that area as well. But when they popped it to the outside, it wasn't that pretty...
Oh well--it's just the first game of pre-season. I will keep the faith that the D will solidify.

Of course, they were making excuses for an abysmal performance, but the ESPN crew made a good point that Couch is still learning the West Coast Offense.
I would give him a little time before throwing him under the bus. Favre won't come out of a game unless his arm falls off and even then only if it's his throwing one, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
I'm certainly not taking too much out of last night's game, and I'm a diehard 'Hawks fan. (Of course, they've burned me too many times for me to get too excited, especially after a preseason game).

Maybe it's a bit of Midwestern bias coming into play, but the Pack is nuts if they don't keep Seneca Wallace around and groom him as the possible heir to the Favre spot. He has loads of potential, and certainly has a better shot at becoming something than Couch.
