He is going to take 4-6 months in prison during the off season and avoid trial. Now lets see if he can start playing good.

I wonder what the NFL is going to do. They can impose penalties if you are convicted of a crime, from fines to suspension to banishment from the league.

If they can fine Jake Plummer for wearing a sticker, they better do something to a guy convicted of cocaine charges.

They can probably do something under a player conduct provision of the standard contract. You'd think though, that his lawyer, who can negotiate small jail time in the off season, might be able to handle the NFL.

Chris Mortensen just reported on ESPN that Lewis will probably be suspended 2-4 games THIS season, most likely to take affect as soon as he signs the plea agreement (but then will be appealed). It's complicated, though, because he was drafted, but hadn't signed a contract when the crimes took place.

Bingo. I'm not sure how that is going to play. I think one could make an argument that in the eyes of the CBA they can't touch this one...

If he does get suspeneded, I would hope that the suspension would be completed sooner rather than later.

The problem for the Ravens is that they have a brutal schedule the rest of the way and I think they will be dogs in at least five of the six games remaining road games. There isn't really any stretch of four games that they could afford to lose there entire offense for. In other words if Lewis gets suspended for November I think the best they could do is 1-3 and even that will be tough.

The schedule is not as bad as you think it might be. The tough games are in bold:

Tonight: vs Kansas City
10/10: at Washington
10/17: BYE
10/24: vs Buffalo
10/31: at Philadelphia
11/7: Cleveland
11/14: at NY Jets
11/21: Dallas
11/28: at New England
12/5: vs Cincinnati
12/12: vs NY Giants
12/19: at Indianapolis
12/26: at Pittsburgh
1/2: vs Miami

Four tough games the rest of the way. I'm not worried about it.

I'd probably add the Jet game in NY as a "tough" game. If he gets a 2 game suspension he's probably best off just serving it now. Better off for the Ravens if he misses the games against Washington and Buffalo then potentially missing games against Philly, Indy, or NE.

I'm with Grimis in that I am not sure how you impose a penality for something that happened before he was an NFL Player? Should be interesting, to say the least.

Just change the team name to the Baltimore Convicts and get it over with already.

I would like to remind you that we have more Super Bowl titles than the states of Ohio, Michigan, and Tennessee combined.

Thank you :)

The NFL policy on violent crime is clear that it applies to anyone who's been drafted or even undrafted players who are talking with teams. Unless there is some specific loophole in the non-violent or substance abuse policies, Jamal not being signed to a contract doesn't seem like a lot for him to hang his hat on in terms of defending a punishment by the league.

Anyone watch Monday Night Football tonight, real funny spot during a "Listen in mic'd players". They had Rey Lewis giving a pep talk to Jamal before the game and saying paraphrasing "You gotta put all these distractions behind you, all that trails and stuff put it behind you and focus on the game right now. That's what I DO!"... As commentators say "Well if anyone would know" HA

Equally funny was Ray's rant about KC getting two men on him. "I'm being double teamed every play! It's not possible!" Then Madden started to point out all the times where only one man was taking Ray out of a play.

Yeah, saw that on the ESPN analysis this morning, too. Of course they noted that Lewis had an off day and *still* got 11 tackles. I couldn't believe I was watching the Baltimore defense get shredded like that.

That said, this Sunday it's Browns at Steelers for first place in the division!

Yeah, did we shit a brick out there or what.

That was a godawful by the entire team. If it weren't for BJ Sams punt return and that flea flicker we would've been blown out. The problem with those two plays are the fact that they were so quick that the D went right back on the field.

Matt Cavanaugh had another series of ridiculous play-calls...

What's scary for the Chiefs are the fact that they had the ball for two-thirds of the game and still nearly lost...

Nothing new. The score wouldn't have been that close if it wasn't for the trick play and the punt return.

Notre Dame looked like I expected them to look. More a product of hype than substance. They don't have elite talent in enough positions yet, and even Georgia Tech was able to match up with them.
