Yes! I don't have to deal with the horn-honking in Woodbridge.

Some lady at my office is crying.

Good for Korea!

So now we have:

Germany
US

Spain
Korean Republic

England
Brazil

Senegal
Turkey

I'm thinking your winners are going to be Germany, Spain, England and Senegal. But hey, surprises always happen!

I like Germany/Korea and Brazil/Senegal for the Final 4 though I have to keep the faith that the USA can pull it off somehow

I really, really wish I'd put some money down on all these supposedly "great" teams being knocked out.

Ahhh, now I'm all thinking England has a chance to actually win the thing. O cruel fates, why do you tempt me this way?

Already, Italy is claiming a conspiracy. I'm trying to remember the last time they lost and actually accepted it without complaining.

As an Italian-American, I am heartbroken that the homeland was robbed of its chance to win the World Cup.

But, on the other hand, I don't really care who wins.....

You want to earn some money? Put ten bucks on Brazil, ten bucks on England. The winner of that match will take it all.

Old School's Film Quote O' The Week-"We All Go A Little Mad Sometimes"-Anthony Perkins as Norman Bates, Psycho; Skeet Ulrich as Billy Loomis, Scream. Oddly fitting this week, I thought.

Okay, that was just plain highway robbery that yellow card at the end. That was Hue Hollins, Don Denkinger, Richard Steele level fuckery there. There are dozens of god-awful actual flops in every game, and yet in Golden Goal time they pull the yellow and chuck the guy on a play that close?! I'm not going to claim a conspiracy or anything of that ilk, but that was just a mind-bogglingly bad call.

The worst part of it is that it ruined for me a beautiful sight, watching the South Koreans advance in front of that delirious crowd.

If you're talking about Totti getting tossed, my understanding of the situation(I didn't watch the extra time) was that he was getting booked for diving, but the ref only realized afterward that he had given Totti a yellow card earlier in the game, and thus was obligated to show him the red. Unfortunate if that's true.

Totti is my favourite Italian-doesn't he look exactly like Joe Elliott from Def Leppard?

Ahhh there is justice in the world. Italy was tugging so much Korean shirt that game, that their players are going to have to clean the Red and White from under their fingernails on the flight home.

That was a tough call on Totti ... but he was flinging himself to the pitch before the Korean tackle hit him. Portugal whines. Italy whines. I bask. FIFA must continue to clamp down on diving and feigning fouls like they have in this World Cup.

Oldschoolhero sez:

Put ten bucks on Brazil, ten bucks on England. The winner of that match will take it all.

You may be right. But I think I'll put 10 bucks on Germany, and 10 bucks on Spain. I think I have just as good a chance of winning as you do, and I'll get better odds while I'm at it.

I can't belive I fell asleep before overtime. I should have kept the computer on, as the radiation gives me energy. That's what I get for watching in bed.

I agree that Morena's call on the second yellow for Totti was a BAD, BAD, HORRIBLE call, but at least he made a call and asserted authority on what he saw, even if he didn't quite see it right.

Come to think of it, it's nice to have a reason to remember his name now. Before I could just call him "that short, pudgy Ecuadorian guy."

the korean dude who scored the golden goal was playing for a club in italy and was fired after knocking italy out of the cub.

they said he disgraced italian football and they wouldn't pay him to play there anymore.

Ahn gets fired by Perugia ... that is priceless. But the spin they are putting on it is a little different from "he beat us so we will fire him".

The club president said "He was a star, a phenomenon against Italy. But he never played a match like that one in Perugia. I consider his attitude an offence to a country that helped him for two years, and as a president of an Italian club, I feel guilty. I don't want to pay him any more."

"Cosmi added: "Obviously he did what he could for his own team. But I can only say, if he he had run for Perugia in the last two seasons like he ran against Italy, he would have been playing many more games."

"Ahn joined Perugia from Pusan Icons in August 2000 and has failed to shine in his two seasons in Italy. He scored four goals in 29 matches in his first season, but just one in 14 last season." Click Here to read the report.

So they are basically accusing him of taking it easy while playing for his clubside but not when he's playing for the national team. On the other hand, if they had given him more playing time, he probably would have had more of an impact. Chicken and egg problem -- the coach can't play a player who is not at the top of his game, but the player can't get to the top of his game without playing lots.

It keeps building...now RAI(Italy's national broadcaster) are thinking of suing FIFA for the lost revenues now that Italians won't be watching any more football games. I have a feeling that for years Italians are going to be talking about the 2002 conspiracy...

On another note, I'm totally going through World Cup withdrawal-two days without games! 12 hours until Brazil-England, though.
