-Don Cherry will be back. Good. People love him. People hate him. People love to hate him.

-Bob Cole & Harry Neale are back. If you live in Toronto and like having the national broadcast sound like a Leafs home game, this is good. If not, Cole's time is up and Neale seems to be on cruise control.

-Burke Power! Brian Burke and Sean Burke are in as studio analysts. Like Cherry, Burke will ruffle a lot of feathers. People outside of Vancouver hate him because they're supposed to hate him. He does what a GM is supposed to do, defends his players at all costs and takes as much of the heat off the team as possible at his own expense. He'll be a good addition while he waits for his next GM job. Sean Burke is a pretty smart guy. I actually had a chance to have lunch with him a few times when he played for the Canucks and he will be another Kelly Hrudey.

-Hrudey will be back. Good, his segment is always good.

-Glenn Healey is GONE.Thank god, he sucked.

The only way that could have been better news would be if Bob Cole were gone. I haven't been able to listen to that guy since he kept calling Team Canada "the Leafs" during the Nagano Olympics. The man can't even learn the players on the opposing team for crying out loud.

Other than that, good news all around. Don't know much about Sean Burke as a commentator but Brian Burke should be very interesting as an analyst. And Glenn Healy's the most useless guy this side of Greg Millen, I'm sure he'll be missed by no one.

Was it done in a Harry Carey, drunken stupor, Mark Grudzalanicknackpaddywhack way? If so, that would have been AWESOME.

Nah, the closest we get to that is Cherry trying to pronounce European names...Alexei Ponikarovsky becomes Pakanewski, and so on. With Cole you just get every guy on the visiting team going by generic terms like "the defenseman", "the Flyer", "his man", etc.

It's definitely time for Cole to step aside. His Leafs bias is just so strong these days it's embarassing to watch.

Cherry's just a moron, but the CBC knows they'd face a massive backlash if they didn't let him leave on his own terms.

The WORST announcing I ever heard was Bob Cole & Harry Neale during the Stanley Cup Finals. They kept mixing up Chris Simon & Chris Clark, Steve Montador & Mike Commodore, Andrew Ference became Brad Ference, Robyn Regehr became Ron Regehr, Ville Nieminen & Marcus Nilson kept getting mixed up...it was annoying as hell.

Someday you will miss these guys, trust me.

I live in LA now and watching hockey isnt the same. I am getting direct TV just so I CAN see games with bob and harry and canadian tire ads!!

They may be getting older, but these men are hall of famers and will go down as one of the best hockey tandems of all time.

No way will I miss these guys. Those guys (especially Cole) misidentified about 20 players during the playoffs this year. I especially love when they say a penalty is going one way right before a commercial and, when they return, it's gone the other way.

I LOVE hearing Cuthbert and Millen call games (OK, maybe not Millen as much as Cuthbert). I keep waiting for the producers to realize that Cole and Neale are going senile and put Cuthbert on the early Sat. night games and the Finals broadcasts. I could listen to Cuthbert do play-by-play of a chess tournament.

We were blessed here in Calgary for having the tandem of the late Ed Whalen & John Garrett doing games for many years. Garrett wasn't golden, but he was damned good. And Whalen will forever be one of the best announcers I've ever had the pleasure of listening to.

Ed Whalen did work for Stampede Wrestling on Calgary 7 (now known as Global) during their first go-around, and did Flames games on Calgary 7 until just before his death. The Flames press box was renamed "The Ed Whalen Broadcast Booth" after his death. Truly a class act.

John Garrett is here in Vancouver now and does Canucks games with Jim Hughson (former Blue Jays voice with Buck Martinez on TSN, national play by play guy with Sportsnet when they had the games, and voice of EA Sports NHL Series).

I'm so spoiled with them that it's a total letdown to watch decent HNIC announcers or the awful TSN crew.

TSN crew isn't that bad. I hate Pierre Mcguire in between periods over analyzing everything though.

Jim Hughson is a good play by play man.

I know this will put me in the "bad Canadian" file, but give me Gary Thorne or Mike Emrick any day.

But you'd be a good "Mainer" though since Thorne is a UMaine grad and Emrick was the original voice of the Maine Mariners back in the day!

Yeah, Harry and Bob have gots to go. They are just too damn.....boring.

Give me Dean Brown and Gord Wilson from the Senators Radio broadcast any day.

I agree with the statements about TSN. The play by play is horrible. But Pierre Mcguire makes it all worth while.

Hey I'm a Leaf fan and even I think it's time for Cole to hang up the headset. I was getting frustrated every time there was a stoppage in play he kept saying how many shut out minutes Belfour was having as I'm screaming "Dude shut up you're jinxing him. You told us it was 72 shutout minutes just a minute ago you don't have to say it's 73 shutout minutes now" LoL... I think he's holding on just so he can call a Maple Leaf Stanley Cup win. So hey you Leaf bashers, pick your poison. Allow us to have one year of glory or keep listening to Cole.

I think non-Leaf fans are a little overboard in their whining about Cole/Neal bias. You do have to understand that's who they announce for all year so of course they are going to have more of a connection to the team. And yes I know it's a national broadcast but if it was the CBC west coast guys doing the game, I wouldn't be too surprise to have a slant in the Alberta/BC teams... I just think Cole is getting old and can't help it. I like Harry Neal, I think he's pretty funny, he does weekday regional Leaf telecast as well

I really liked Jim Hughson back in the day, he was very good. Wasn't he was partnered with Gary Green? (When did he do baseball, was he before or after Shaulman?)... Who's doing the TSN national broadcasts, is it Gord Miller? He's pretty bland
