If I were a betting man, I'd swear Brett Favre would be joining the Vikings in the next few weeks, or at least attempt to join the team in that time frame.
Wait a minute, I am a betting man.
Now, first off, this is not one of those "FOXSports.com has learned ..." news scoops. Instead, it's a picture that has been painted for me and a prediction I'm making after spending my time with Zygi Wilf's squad. My prediction couldn't be more emphatic.
After visiting the Vikings for two days, I am convinced — positively convinced — that Brett Favre will soon have talks with the Vikings to return to the team and could be joining them for this season after all. If my instincts are correct, all those purple Favre jerseys will have a home on Minnesota store shelves.
Granted, my camp stop occurred before Sage Rosenfels lit up the Colts in the preseason opener to the tune of 10-of-13 passing for 91 yards. And if Rosenfels can continue like this, he could squash this prediction as the preseason continues.
But until I see it more consistently, I'm absolutely convinced. Why? For starters, because everyone else on the Vikings seems to be convinced of the same thing. I mean damn near everybody!
During my two days in Mankato, nearly everyone I talked to within the team talked about Favre joining not as an "if" but rather a "when."
Players, coaches, team employees ... you name it, they seem to believe it. The case for a Favre-Vikings marriage seems more likely than not when we look at the overall picture of clues.
Glazer goes on to cite four compelling (or not) reasons to back up his vibe - the Viking players all seem convinced it's happening, Favre hasn't "closed the door," Favre is a better option than Sage or T-Jack, and Favre hates camp. I can't argue with the last one, and maybe the second one. Delusional Vikings waiting for Favre shouldn't serve as evidence, at least as I see it. As for Favre being better than the QBs the Vikes have now....I could go either way at this point.
I'm still hopeful he shows up because I'm convinced it would be a train wreck of monumental proportions and the entertainment value derived would almost make up for the fact that I'm pretty much resigned to having to watch all the Minnesota games anyway (unless they fail to sell out - cross your fingers!) so I might as well get in my yuks where I can. There is a high potential for yuks with Favre running this offense.
EDIT: Of course, we should not discount the possibility that it could just be a slow news day.
Yea, I saw this morning, but then realized I couldn't bump the old thread and wasn't excited enough to start a new one. Peter King had a similar thought this morning...
I think the Minnesota Vikings, should they struggle at quarterback, will call Brett Favre. It's a pretty strong feeling, based on knowing the people involved and based on the desperation of the Vikings to do more than win a division this year.
...though King seemed to think more of an in-season return, and Glazer seems to have it sooner.
Just before Favre said he wasn't coming back this season, people on ESPN were talking about how Favre had never had to travel to a training camp since he was with the Falcons - the Packers and the Jets had trained in or near their home facility - and that might be an issue. Of course, they were talking about everything under the sun, so who really knows.
As an Eagles fan, I would love the distraction to the media that a possible Favre return would provide, although I doubt it would have any impact locally.
Given the way things are going, part of me would actually want the Eagles to sign Favre now just to complete the process of melting my brain. After last week, no amount of rational thought can preclude me from thinking this.

Doesn't the blackout rule say that if the home team doesn't sell out, no game can be shown in that timeslot?
(Of course, if it's that you have a fan in the family.. a blackout would free the tube for Xbox, etc.)

Each TV market, including one hosting a non-sold-out game, is assured of at least one televised game in the early and late time slots, one game on each network, but no "network doubleheader" in a market originating a non-sold-out game.

If a home game is blacked out locally because it is not sold out before the 72-hour deadline, one of the following things will happen:
* If the blacked out home game is a nationally televised game on a broadcast network, like NBC Sunday Night Football, where no other NFL games are played at the same time, all local stations inside the 75-mile radius must broadcast alternative programming (the stations have to program the time themselves, since other affiliates are carrying the game). This scenario is unlikely to happen given that Sunday Night games are scheduled to have highly anticipated matchups featuring teams projected to be good. Thus the chances of a home crowd not selling out the stadium during the first half of the season, when there is still hope for a team to rebound after a slow start, is remote. Roughly halfway through the season NBC and NFL get the option to 'flex' games in and out of the primetime slot. So if a late season matchup ends up featuring a home team that has a terrible record, and thus would be unlikely to sell out, it will be moved to Sunday afternoon in favor of a better game.
* If the blacked-out nationally televised game is on a cable television network like ESPN or the NFL Network, all cable and satellite television providers in the affected markets must black out the cable network's signal to customers in the affected markets during the game (this is a condition of the channels' agreements with both the league and the providers). In addition, the game is not simulcast on a local broadcast station in the blacked-out markets. Local stations would still be able to show highlights on their newscasts after the game has concluded. In areas where the game is blacked out, ESPN and NFL Network would generally offer alternate programming; local stations originally scheduled to carry the game would either show their own alternate programming or, if a network affiliate, show the normal network schedule for that night.
* If the blacked-out home game is played on a Sunday afternoon, all local stations inside the 75-mile radius must show a different NFL game during that time slot (the network typically chooses the game). Also, NFL Sunday Ticket cannot offer the game into that area. As stated earlier, the doubleheader network can broadcast only one game into that team's primary market (usually the #1 game), which is also designed to prevent people from opting to watch the other locally televised NFL games instead of going to the local team's game. Again, the secondary markets would still carry a doubleheader. Sometimes, the networks will switch time slots so that the doubleheader network can still show its featured 4:15 game.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Brett Favre boarded a plane Tuesday at 9:10 a.m. at the Hattiesburg Laurel Regional Airport according to a report sources.
According to a report the plane's destination was the Twin Cities.
Sources tell WDAM in Mississippi that Favre boarded by himself and commented, "We may know something by dinner."
Rumors have been passed around in recent weeks that Favre, a former Green Bay Packers and New York Jets quarterback would join the Minnesota Vikings before the end of the preseason. The Browns open for the regular season against the Vikings on Sept. 13.

WCCO-TV spoke with an official at the Hattiesburg, Miss., airport, who saw an airplane with the Vikings logo leave the airport Tuesday morning. The flight number for that plane has been blocked from tracking systems.
WISN-TV, in Milwaukee, Wis., has learned that the plane carrying Brett and Deanna Favre will land in Minneapolis around 12:10 p.m.
Coach Brad Childress confirmed in an e-mail to The Associated Press Tuesday morning that the veteran quarterback was traveling from Mississippi to meet with the team.
Asked if the plan was to sign Favre on Tuesday, Childress replied: "In a perfect world."
He and his wife Deanna have landed and are in the Escalade with Chilly right now on their way to Winter Park for the obligatory physical before the signing.
S'funny, the KFAN guys were watching it on tv and when Favre walked out of the plane, they were hollering: "THE EAGLE HAS LANDED~!" My co-worker thought they said: "THE EGO HAS LANDED~!" We laughed.

Yahoo Sports! says a high-placed NFL source said that Favre's agent, Bus Cook, spent a majority of Monday checking in with the Vikings on a one-year, $12 million deal for Favre to become a Viking this season.
The Vikings finished training camp last week and beat Indianapolis 13-3 in their preseason opener Friday. They got a strong performance from quarterback Sage Rosenfels (FSY), who has been competing with Tarvaris Jackson (FSY) for the starting job since Favre jilted the team July 28.
The longtime Green Bay star, who holds almost all the NFL's career passing records, has never been much of a fan of offseason practices, though. Last summer, he ended his retirement with the Packers and forced a trade to the New York Jets, where he faded down the stretch amid problems with his throwing arm.
He had arthroscopic surgery to fix that in May, spent this summer working out and led everyone to believe he was on his way back to the NFL until his surprising announcement last month.
"It was the hardest decision I've ever made," Favre told ESPN then. "I didn't feel like physically I could play at a level that was acceptable."
The next day, Childress was asked whether there was a chance the Vikings would still pursue Favre at later point. He said: "Not from my standpoint, no." Owner Zygi Wilf reiterated that pledge during the first week of training camp.
And yet, here comes Favre, who turns 40 in October. He said last month he didn't think he had enough left to get through a full season.
"I had to be careful not to commit for the wrong reasons," Favre said then. "They were telling me, 'You went through all this, you had the surgery and you've got to finish it off.' But I have legitimate reasons for my decision. I'm 39 with a lot of sacks to my name."
The Vikings are expected to challenge for the NFC North title this season, whoever is behind center.
Rosenfels and Jackson had some rough moments during practice. Jackson hurt his knee, missed a few workouts and then returned, but he was out of sync last week against the Colts. Rosenfels did well, but preseason games are tough to evaluate and Indianapolis held out all four starting defensive backs.
Let me tell how surprised I am from all of this........and that's it.
I honestly believe Brett is just no longer a professional anymore; he wants to sign with the Vikes in hopes in getting back at Green Bay, which he led to a SuperBowl title for the first time since a guy named Bart Starr did.
He has been given the "icon" status which is supposed to excuse him from any other football player which I think is pretty lame.
I just think Brett has it in his head that every team and part of the media is supposed to roll over for him because he is Brett Favre.
I will give credit where credit is due; he has been a good spokesperson of the field which is seemingly a rarity these days in sports but on the field, he creates more buzz than a swarm of bees.
I respect what he has done through his lengthy NFL career is definitely a first ballot Hall of Famer. However, it seems below professionalism when you try to consistently have the media spotlight on you and expect teams to jump because of your status.

Favre is just an old man who didn't want to go to training camp. It's really that simple, I promise. I adore how people make up these little dramas in their head about how Favre schemes and plots, no doubt while twirling his moustache.

He may not be a mustache-twirler, but there's something to be said about a guy who's willing to risk a surgically repaired shoulder just to have a shot at his former team and piss on his legacy. Seriously, he would have been a god in Green Bay for the rest of his life and he just threw it all away.
So after this season, when he announces his retirement for the third straight year, can the media just ignore him and let him go away?
