I would never, never have picked Greece to win Euro 2004. Even after all the upsets in the earlier rounds, I figured Portugal would find a way to win in front of their home country.
They must be partying on the Danforth in Toronto right now, as well as in Melbourne Australia(huge Greek population).
This is one of the biggest football shockers I can recall.
Brill match. Greece deserve it for nullifying Portugal and scoring a goal more than them. I wonder how Athens looks today? Poor Ronaldo (the other one) crying but at least he kept his shirt on and he was unlucky not to score - bet many would like to score with him. It was a good tournament, not grate but good and a nice fairytale finish. One of the best things about football - unpredicability and it doesn't need any separate rules to keep it that way.
I ran, I ran so far away 'cos I want you to want me and I was angry when I met you, you stupid girl
It's good that Greece will get its jollies in now, since the Olympics are going to be a disaster.

It's always cool to see a major upset team win. But damn do they play a style that puts you to sleep, it's like the Italians except for the choke-artistry... All 3 teams Greece put out in the playoff round has a lot of offensive imagination but Greece flooded their own end with all their players to stop them and was lucky enough to score in their few opportunities.
Sure it's smart football play for them and full credit to their coach but I'd rather see a team that actually presses the game and show some offensive drive to win it then a team that nulls you to sleep and try to get a quick one in the counter attack.
smark/net attack wienerville advisory is raised to YELLOW alert - Elevated (JBL is the new WWE champion, good gawd hide under the desk. But Benoit is World Champion allowing some safety in the IWC)- 6/28
This actually gives me hope the US can win the World Cup before I die...
God Bless Ronald Reagan, and may he rest in peace...

For decades, American had waged a Cold War, and few believed it could possibly end in our own lifetimes. The president was one of those few. And it was the vision and the will of Ronald Reagan that gave hope to the oppressed, shamed the oppressors and ended an evil empire . . . Ronald Reagan was more than a historic figure. He was a providential man who came along just when our nation and the world most needed him.
Fellow Americans, here lies a graceful and a gallant man. - Dick Cheney, 6/9/2004
Reagan had a rare and prized gift called leadership, that ineffable and sometimes magical quality that sets some men and women apart so that millions will follow them as they conjure up grand visions and invite their countrymen to dream big and exciting dreams.-Brian Mulroney, 6/11/2004

I'm with you on the way they played up to the final, but I actually thought they outplayed Portugal on the night. The Portuguese only got any real chances in the last 20 minutes or so when just about every country this side of Brazil would sit on a 1 goal lead in a final.
I'd have a whole lot more sympathy for Portugal if they had had the guts to play with more than one man up front. Even if they didn't do that Scolari should have at least made sure that one man was anyone the fuck but Pauleta who appeared determined to fire the ball into row Z every chance he got.
Having said that, I still think in 4 years time we'll be watching the championships minus the defending champions for the first time.
