So, is anyone on here using Google Wave? Any thoughts?
I think it's a cool and convenient concept, but it's hard to say at this point how much I'll actually use it because there are still so few people on it. For instance, using it to plan a party or collaborate on some kind of project is unrealistic for me right now because nobody who I work, study or party with is on it.
It seems like it will be a cool way to discuss music and movies with friends. It's almost like a message board, but only friends you invite and updated in real time. I like it and I hope it takes off because I'd like to utilize more of its features.
Here is a useful video by the developers (seven minutes, not the 80-minute one they first released) explaining Wave.
I was interested in the concept enough to try it out, but see no real reason for me to use it at this point. Just does a bunch of stuff I already do on other sites.
I got on this last week and I still really haven't figured out what I'm supposed to do with it! All I get is that it's some sort of collaborative tool.

That's one of the things, but I think Google sees this as a replacement for e-mail. And once more people are on it, maybe it could be. But it's really difficult to tell right now.
The idea of one single message existing that all participants see is a good one, I think. I hate when I send out an e-mail to several people about, say, a concert I went to or something, and then have to sort five or six separate conversations that result from it. With Wave, they're all in one place, and all your friends can see what your other friends ask or say (but there is a private message feature even within waves that other people are part of).

Ditto that. I have no idea what it's really for, and barely anyone I know is on there. As such, I never use it.
Continuing in my new role as Google Wave cheerleader, here is the Twitter page for Wave, including links to a couple public waves in which you can see a bunch of strangers collaborating on random stuff. I haven't figured out a way to browse public waves, if such a tool even exists at this point.
EDIT: Aha! To browse public waves, enter "with:public" (without quotes) in the search bar at the top of your inbox (where it says "in:inbox" by default).
Just got it; only have four contacts on it. I'm sure it might be amazing, but it's going to be a while before it's functional to the level that warrants the hype.
Turns out there was an invite in my Gmail box 10 days ago if only I'd ever bothered to look in there. So I guess *I* have some invites to give out, too, if anybody still needs one...
Also, how do I find the rest of you dudes now that I'm on there?
Also, also, will it ever be more fun than this (lunchtimers.com)?
In the lower left corner any of your gmail contacts - assuming you have a gmail account? - who are on there should pop up automatically. Mine did and have. You just need to make sure the people are actually in you gmail address book (click manage contacts in the lower left). It's not the smoothest aspect of it, and I let them know I didn't like it in some survey, hopefully the fact that it's a beta means there are actually people reading them.
Hey! So, if you are on this and would like to find other people you know to get to know the site, do this:
At the top of your inbox, where the default says "in:inbox" type "with:public the-w.com" (without quotes). This should give you a wave I created titled the-w.com users, and anyone who wants to can interact on it. I only have a few contacts on there right now, so I'd like to have a few more people to interact with!

"There were no results for with:public the-w.com"
Oh, no wait, I guess I had to wait. There it is. Cool!
I believe that this will be big eventually, but for now, due to the limited number of people on it, it won't be much more than a toy for a lot of people. Having said that, I too would like an invite so that I can try it out!
On a related note, Lifehacker Editor Adam Pash and Lifehacker Founding Editor Gina Trapani wrote a book about Google Wave that may be useful. Check here (completewaveguide.com), 'cause it's a wiki too!
