Finalyy, the Eagles have signed someome of note...I think. Since stats are sometimes deceiving, any Packers fans wanna opine as to whether Nate Wayne is really any good?
We're losing Douglas to...Jacksonville? WTF?! Man, it's all well and good to manage your cap money, but you mean to tell me the Eagles are getting outbid by salary-cap hell resident Jacksonville? Man.....

Regarding Nate Wayne: Trust me this is excellent news. I saw a fair amount of the Pack last year and he looked a good player. The guys probably not gonna be as intimidating a presence as Kirkland was against the run but he's got a whole lot of speed that we were sorely lacking at LB last year to make up for that. He'll also help bolster an already pretty tasty passing D and the boy can tackle.
Regarding Hugh: I'll reserve judgement until I hear who we get to replace him. The Jags have signed him to a five year deal so they may have staggered the majoriy of money toward the end of that to get round the cap. Its always been our policy not to be held to ransom by any player which is something I for one am happy about.
Besides, Hugh aint no spring chicken any more and he also didnt get a single sack in the post season this year. He'll be missed, but he IS replacable. Theres plenty of time left till the start of the new season, and as far as I understand a fair bit of cash for Reid to get the guy he wants to fill this hole.
I damn sure hope he gets him soon though cos until then this particular Eagle is gonna be a smidge apprehensive.

Seriously, the NFC East is looking like it could belong to Washington if our new players all gel. I'm not saying that one or two people make a team. I just don't see the other NFC East teams fighting to make their teams better like we are right now. The Eagles seem to be hemorraghing pro bowlers and the Giants decided they'd should pay $8 million to Sehorn NOT to play. The Cowboys? When they get a serious quarterback and running back, they might be a threat.
Of course, when it's December and we end up 7-9 again, I won't really be that surprised.
Get well soon Kurt, Batista, Randy, Edge, Kevin, Scotty, Bubba, Regal....
Man, that's depressing...and I know there's people I've forgotten!

Aw bless. Its so sweet to see the little teams get dellusions of grandeur in the close season.
Actually the 'Skins are shaping up OK and their D looks pretty damned hot not, especially at LB (Damn you Trotter....). But at the end of the day your offense still looks like it'll pretty much suck.
Seriously, how many 2nd rate QB's does one team need. I mean Rob Johnson? Yeesh, that would almost have me wishing for Kordell. We might not have Hugh any more but my gran could have a bash at putting pressure on that guy with his pocket presence.
And I think that losing Davis could prove to be a bigger blow than you might think. I always liked the guy and think he could be top drawer if he went to the right team in much the same way that Ricky improved at Miami. Sadly Carolina is probably not that team but hey ho.
And really the Eagles losses aint so bad. We lost Barber, but the system helped him a hell of a lot and hopefully it'll do the same for Nate and Simoneau (or whatever his name is). Mitchell was getting old and we've got the likes of Buckhalter who can try to step up on the return side anyway now.
Hugh will be a loss no doubt, but theres still plenty time to sign a replacement. Besides Burgess and Whiting ain't too shabby at pass rushing and theres always Dawkins to do a bit of blitzing.
I kinda hope youre right about the Skins getting better though. It would be nice to have a bit of competition to ready us for the play-offs and hey, anyone who beats up on NY is OK in my books. :)

Nate Wayne? I'll submit the comments from Bob McGinn, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, on his season-ending grading of the Packers:
"Turns 28 today but is beat-up for his age and must be replaced as a starter no later than 2004..." (1/11/03)
*back to me* He's been injury prone, and didn't really make any plays. In many schemes, outside linebackers should lead their team in tackles, so I don't know how much that proves. If you get the Nate Wayne of 2001 or even 2000, it will be a good move. The Packers are betting that you won't.
EDIT: I just read the article on Sportsline. I can't honestly recall anyone in Green Bay, or anyone who covers the Packers, saying that Nate Wayne just had a career year.

This has nothing to do with Warner or Bulger. They decided bringing back Scott Covington wasn't worth it so they needed a third string guy and Martz has history with Chandler.
