How could anyone hate the Coyotes ? They haven't been in Phoenix long enough to build up a geographical rival and before they were the 'yotes they were the Winnipeg Jets and I only hated the Jets when they came to town in mid-january for a game against the Rangers and I couldn't sell my tickets because no one ever wanted to see the Jets

That Western conference sure is great, though. 9 points separate 9 teams, or something like that. You gotta love that everyone is just fighting right until the end.
i can't believe the coyotes haven't faded down the stretch. sean burke is awesome and the genius who FINALLY decided briere was better off playing every game instead of being a healthy scratch every 3rd game deserves some credit. i still loathe claude lemieux, though.
60 watts? what do you think this is, a tanning salon?
I meant a good 'these guys should have been out of the playoff race a long time ago' when I said I hated the Coyotes. Though I liked them better as the Jets (Tkachuk, Selanne, ugly uniforms.)
As a Kings fan, it's painful knowing that the Kings went 0-3-2 against the Coyotes in the regular season. These guys are proving that they can hang on. Playoff hockey is a different deal though.
Briere is amazing. I was lucky enough to be flipping channels while taping a Kings game and got his kick ass goal against Patrick Roy on tape. The guy went from end to end untouched. Deek, goal.
Briere has also been a real quality late season fantasy league pick-up for me. My centers were Doug Weight and Anson Carter but now through trades and the waiver wire, I have Briere, Jan Hrdina and Mike Comrie.
and who can ever forget the most famous Jets of all - Bobby Hull and the two "Chicken Swedes" as Don Cherry would call them - Anders Hedberg and Ulf Nilsson.

You mean to say that you prefer the ugly teal and maroon wacky designs of the current Phoenix Coyotes to the stylish almost-exactly-the-same-as-the-old-Washington-Capitals white, blue, and red uniforms of the Winnipeg Jets?
Of course, you being a Kings fan, you must remember the worst hockey jerseys of all, the old yellow Kings jerseys, which, of course, make even the new Coyotes jerseys look fantastic.
For sheer inexplicable ugliness, I think the cake has got to go to the original Vancouver Canucks uniforms. And no, I don't mean the black/red/yellow with the wierd logo. I mean the green/blue/white hockey stick in a rounded rectangle.
But the Kings' original jerseys run a close second.
I had an original Canucks road jersey (sans the logo) and it wasn't that bad - the WHA produced some ugly jerseys but most of their teams weren't around long enough for anyone to really remember - Carol Vadnais' white skates with the green & gold uniforms of the old California Golden Seals were fairly humorous as was the Gorton's Fisherman Logo the Islanders had a few years ago but I think the most ridiculous uniform we have ever seen has got to be when the flyers wore the full length black pants and looked like they were playing pond hockey.......

Dude!!!! Them long black things were called Cooperalls, a clever combination of `Cooper' (the largest manufacturer of hockey gear at the time, since swallowed by Bauer, I believe) and `coveralls'.
Cooperalls were like, totally the rage in the early eighties. Instead of the classic hockey pants + cup + garter belt + hockey socks combo, it was girdle + cooperalls. The girdle had a `pocket' for your cup and your other pads, and the long pants saved you from the socks and the garter.
I never liked the long pants, but the girdle was comfy and could be combined with short pants and standard girdle/socks.
The NHL made the Flyers stop wearing the pants because ``it made it hard to see the puck.'' Pfffft. For people watching on TV, maybe. At least they didn't try going with orange pants (the pants were available in every color you can imagine). But man, despite the fact that they were ugly, the Flyers looked positively menacing with all that black, precursing the tendency towards black uniforms that became de rigeur in the 90s. Plus they were a bunch of meathead goons at the time...
Wow. Thanks for the reminder. I hadn't thought about those in yonks. I now also miss the garter belt...nowadays they've got shorts with velcro to hold the cup and attach the socks. But thanks to my hockey-playing youth, I've had a couple ladies tell me my garter removal technique is second to none ;)
Cooperalls !!!! I sat here at my desk the other day and racked my brain and could not remember the name of those things - I played way before cooperalls and played a good many years before face masks and cages were mandatory - that probably explains a lot about my appearance too.....

The Ducks' maniacal "Wild Wing" was pretty putrid. The Kings' initial third jersey (with the big king head that looked like a playing card) was also horrid. The original Caps' uniforms weren't that bad, but thie first season they played with white pants with their home uniforms. As if the team wasn't bad enough, they all got laughed at because of their all-white outfits.
"Oh gee, hold the phone. This is an unscheduled surprise. This young man has had a very trying rookie season. What with the litigation, the notoriety, his subsequent deportation to Canada and that country's subsequent refusal to accept him, well, I guess that's more than most 21-year-olds could handle -- Ogie Oglethorpe!"
My pops who was a die hard Montreal fan refuses to watch hockey anymore because of the Mighty Ducks. I think he wants me to join in the boycott but I told him I'm waiting until one of the original six moves.
I agree that Daniel Briere is a damn good and will only get damn better.
I don't agree that people keep ignoring how bad the Oakland/California Golden Seals looked. Kelly green with a gaudy gold color scheme on the jersey, one strange looking logo (Is that a seal or a slug?), and WHITE SKATES. It bears repeating: WHITE SKATES. This team looked as ugly as they played. Yes, the Caps, Canucks, and the Kings had ugly uniforms in the past. But Oakland/California really takes the cake.
And I agree that the Western Conference is as exciting as it can be. Seeds 4 through 10 (seed #3 if San Jose chokes) all within 8-10 pts. of each other, it makes every season game mean something. Which is how it should be.
...Some fear the Pink... ...But many fear....THE MOUNTIE! (He's handsome, he's brave, and he's strong, you know)
I heard about both games being broadcast NEXT week on ESPN Classic, but even with that, the coverage will pale in comparison to the coverage that both games will be receiving in Canada.
