NEW YORK -- Gilbert Arenas tried joking about his gun trouble. David Stern found none of it funny.
Arenas was suspended without pay Wednesday by the NBA commissioner, who determined the player's behavior made him "not currently fit to take the court."
A day after the Washington Wizards guard was photographed before a game in Philadelphia pointing his index fingers, as if they were guns, at his teammates, Stern warned the former All-Star that his conduct will "ultimately result in a substantial suspension, and perhaps worse."
At the very least, I think this would have wound up being a one or two week suspension had Gilbert Arenas shown SOME remorse, instead of twittering that he did nothing wrong and doing the Cactus Jack "Bang Bang" guns like a total idiot.
And sure enough, after the suspension:
"I feel very badly that my actions have caused the NBA to suspend me, but I understand why the league took this action," Arenas said in a statement through his attorney. "I put the NBA in a negative light and let down my teammates and our fans. I am very sorry for doing that."
Yes, the apology and the contrition comes AFTER he starts losing money.
What a dope. I hope the Wizards void his contract to make an example out of him.
Amazing that Gilbert is bringing all the trouble on himself, when it might be his feuding partner who might be in more trouble.
Originally posted by Washington PostAccording to two first-hand accounts of the confrontation, Crittenton responded to Arenas's action -- which included laying the four unloaded weapons in Crittenton's cubicle with a note that read, "Pick One" -- by brandishing his own firearm, loading the gun and chambering a round.
Two of the five people in the room that morning, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Arenas had originally not disclosed Crittenton's action to protect the little-used guard from prosecution and had told Crittenton he would assume full responsibility for the actions of both players that day.
I honestly do not blame David Stern; Gilbert Arenas should have been mature or at least thought before he did anything. After the Plaxico incident, nothing can really be taken too lightly anymore about weapons even if it was a joke (and Gilbert is not laughing after being suspended without pay now).
And now you've got DeShawn Stevenson taping Arenas' "Agent Zero" moniker on his shins. Yeah, the kind of treatment usually saved for injured or dead teammates is being brought out for a guy that brought guns to a locker room. Unbelievable.
Sorry, I should have made it clear that I meant that the simple act of owning a gun wasn't bad.
All NBA facilities have a gun ban, so he was wrong to have it with him even if it was in the middle of the great plains.
He's just a moron, plain and simple, and the Wizards will use this to void his contract. This MIGHT be a good business move for him, if he can get a one year deal next season and be on fire and then sign a long term deal somewhere.
A trade that works for EVERYONE...except the Grizz, of course. ESPN - Trade allows Hornets, Rockets to keep up with West shakers The Hornets get Bonzi Wells and Mike James. The Rockets get Bobby Jackson (re-uniting him with Rick Adelman)
