It's a real shame. The Royals were the butt of jokes for signing the guy, then he went and a rguably pitched well enough to deserve the contract the first few years of the deal. Too bad the combination of his own stubborness, the Royals horrible medical staff, and Trey Hillman's idiocy left him with a ruined shoulder.
Thread title is a bit misleading. He said he just couldn't take the money, have the needed surgery, and get paid for 2011 and not play. I am sure the thought of all the rehab was part of it but mostly he stated he felt it was wrong to take that much money and sit.
I highly, highly doubt it would had change anything. But a part of me wonders if Miche had announced this a couple of weeks earlier if the Royals would had looked at the money coming off the board and try to keep Greinke instead of trading him. Or at least hold off on trading him until they were closer to the trading deadline and get a better deal out of him then they did with the Brewers.
Thread title is VERY misleading. He knew he couldn't give the team what they needed from him so he walked away before harming the team and giving himself some potential long-term arm damage. So, even though he could have toughed it out, he chose not to. It has nothing to do with the state of the KC Royals.
The twelve million would not have helped keep Greinke, he wanted out and was going to leave anyway because he wanted to get out of a re-building situation. If it was JUST get out of KC Grienke would be a Natinal.
(Yes, the typo was on purpose).

And just having Greinke wasn't going to make them a contender. Hopefully what they got will overall make a better team.
