So, the Giants couldn't make it to Minneapolis today because of, you know, that major blizzard thing. So, their charter got diverted to Kansas City. The plan was to fly out from KC at 8am, to get to Minneapolis by 9am for a noon kickoff (all times Central). The NFL signed off on this.
Then they found out there's like a ton of snow (startribune.com) on the Metrodome roof.
So, the game has been moved to Monday night, 7pm Central kickoff. It'll still be on Fox, but only in the Twin Cites, and the NY metro area.
In Minnesota, where this kind of wet, snowy weather would be ideal viewing for many a football fan to watch from time to time, they build a domed, indoor stadium to eliminate any drama from the weather. So when the snowstorm comes along, it affects the stadium to the point of postponement anyway. And this is the same city that's OK with a open, outdoor baseball stadium to play in nearly these same conditions in April and October.
I can't understand this logic. I mean, you Minnesotans, I don't know what to say, like that girlfriend in the state farm commercial, you make my head numb, I can't even...
Wikipedia says this is not the first time the roof has collapsed. It lists 4 times that it happened previously. All previous times were in the early '80s.
EDIT: @pourmecoffee: In a show of solidarity with the Vikings, the Metrodome roof has also collapsed.
Per ESPN there are also a couple tears in the roof as well.
Sounds like the Metrodome is out for Monday at least. Theoretically, there is U of Minnesota's outdoor stadium that would be available, but the weather becomes more of a concern, since the Giants, assuming they'd be playing in a dome, didn't bring a lot of their cold-weather gear.
Mortensen was just on ESPN, says they are looking at Ford Field in Detroit as a fallback, since it's a dome, and the Fox TV equipment is already there. Apparently, TV is still being negotiated for this game as well, especially since the Giants are a prime draw for most of NY state, and New England. who'd be cut out from the game as it stands now. There is no talk, or at least no publicly reported talk, about switching the ESPN game to Giants-Vikes though.
If the game gets pushed back to at least Tuesday (which at this point seems likely) and isn't competing against any existing scheduled broadcast, I don't see why NFL Network couldn't broadcast the game in markets outside of the two teams' home markets (where Fox would still carry the games).

IF it is still being played Monday night, Sunday Ticket subscribers out of each market can see it as usual.

I really don't see it slipping to Tuesday, the Giants host Philly next Sunday, and that game will probably decide the division, I don't see them shortening the prep week any further than Monday. Right now, the alternatives being discussed are TCF Bank Stadium (U of Minnesota), Ford Field, and the Superdome (domed stadium that will have Fox equipment already in place)
sportsguy33 Bill Simmons FYI: NOBODY cares how Minny's roof collapse affects Favre's streak. We care about fantasy/gambling/playoffs + if game will be shown on TV.
This game is a big deal in my money league.
WhitlockJason Jason Whitlock Bud Selig has advised Goodell to call Vikes-Giants a tie and move on.
St Louis Mayor Francis Slay has offered the Edward Jones Dome for the game as well.
It's most likely to be a Detroit game. Although I'd love to see a Giants game in St Louis!
Edit: Aw Crap! Fox is reporting the game is going to be tomorrow night in Detroit. NY and Minnesota viewers can see it on their local FOX channels. No word on the rest of the country getting the game.

It was only a regional game going in, so that's all it's going to be Monday. Not sure if that extends to CT where we always get Giants games over every other game.
