In this article, he takes shots at BALCO and Barry Bonds. He also admits to using a couple of different steroid creams given to him by BALCO people. He also makes it seem like Bonds may know more about the ins and outs of BALCO than Bonds has let on.

All these guys around [Bonds] were puppets.

(Greg Anderson is Bonds' personal trainer that has been indicted as well.)

I think the thread should have been called "Barry Bonds and Gary Sheffield break up". The best part of the story is how Bonds stole Sheffield's personal chef and then after he did he called Sheffield to see why he wasn't working for him any more, thats such a Bonds move.

I actually remember reading the article Sheffield is refering to; it's been sticking in the back of my head since he and Bonds were linked to BALCO, because it was all about Bonds insane off season training (and how Sheffield couldn't get up and whined and went home - which obviously Gary gets to dispute now).

The thing is, I thought I remembered reading it in ESPNMag (actually, on ESPNMag.com back when either they were allowing you articles for free, or I wasn't paying to read 'em). Maybe the 09/17/01 one? Doesn't have a good enough description, but it'd intersting to read in the context of everything that's gone on after.

So, Sheffield admits to using steroids (sure, he didn't know it, that's why he wrote the checks to BALCO) and he gas admitted to throwing baseball games. How has he not been booted from the game? When Rose bet on baseball he was tossed. When the Black Sox tanked games, they were tossed. Sheffield thinks people are real stupid if he wants to public to believe he didn't intentionally use steroids, but he got away with the public's stupidity once already. I mean, it is not like the drug dealing friends of Sheffield's uncle Doc would have tried to benefit financially from his 'youthful indiscretions'.

The difference between Sheffield's tanking games and the Black Sox is that the Sox were paid specifically to do so, (even St. Jackson).

Rose's betting on baseball is an entirely seperate issue.

Pretty reckless accusation there.

All that said, there should still be at least some hearings among the baseball muckymuck about the steroids.

This is a fantastic deal for the Yankees. Even if you want to completely disregard Vasquez' 2009 because it was in the NL, he was also a great pitcher from 2006 to 2008 with the White Sox.
