Wow. What an epic episode. They usually reserve this for Episode 9 each season.

Daenerys accepts Tyrion as an adviser and tells the guards to take Jorah out of the city. Jorah went back to the slave traders to fight in the fighting pits because he has greyscale anyways so not much options out there.

Cercei is still in prison, they won't give her water unless she confesses her sins which is a lot (incest, murdering Robert Baratheon, etc). Uncle Kevan came back but refuses to see her. Tommen is not eating because his mom and his wife are both locked up. At one point Cercei had to lick the water off the ground.

Jaqen is training Arya to pretend to be a oyster merchant while spying and probably assassinating some thin merchant.

Reek delivers food to Sansa and Sansa asked him why he betrayed her, he said he was helping her because there is no escape. Reek accidentally tells Sansa that Bran and Rickon are still alive.

Jon Snow goes to negotiate with the Wildings to move south of the wall. Some of them are down with it because Tormund backs Jon Snow up and Tormund also beat the shit out of Shao Kahn who was protesting Jon Snow being there. The bald headed guy with the facial scars is skeptical. Some of them get on boats to leave but the dogs start going crazy and sure enough they are attacked by the White Walker. Oh yeah, now everyone wants to go. There was a new female Wildling and I kind of knew she would die because she put her children on a separate boat and promised she will be right behind them. That never ends well. The way she went down is going to give me nightmares with those terrifying zombie children. The "Previously on" scenes show Jon Snow receiving Longclaw. Jon tried to get some dragon glass but one of the sub-boss White Walker was in the building and any weapon that went against his magic sword turned into dust... except Jon Snow's sword. The Night's King saw all that go down and he looks pissed. He got down by the dock, raised his arms up like the Undertaker and all the dead Wildlings came back to live with glowing blue eyes. Jon Snow stares him down as his boat rows away. Really great battle between the White Walkers and the Wildings/Night's Watch/Giant, though.

You know something, Jon Snow.

It might be the newness, and it might be my love for hyperbole, but that was the best episode of the series. We have deviated far from the books, and I don't give a shit. NOW we see the threat and fuuuuck, it's serious. Dragonglass, Dragonsteel, Dany and her children are more important than ever. Also, Brienne. White Walker children are somehow more frightening than White Walker adults, who are so devoted to killing that they throw themselves off the side of a fucking mountain to get the job done. Cersi licking the floor was surreal. I want to see her face when Tyrion comes riding on a dragon to save Westeros.

Yeah...there is a story plot in the books that Sam and Ollie allude to. That nonsensical plot has to go away, because the people of Westeros be fucked. I love how all the stories prior to the Wildlings one seem to moving a bit towards something, but at the end of the episode its all meaningless.

Having said that Tommen needs to get a set of balls. Tyrion in his own way tried to save Jorah which he sorta did. I love Arya's new role. The hint about the Mountain was nice.

That was on the short list of best Game Of Thrones episodes of all time, with a solid case as THE best. Hell, it was a terrific episode even before the Hardhome battle --- the much-anticipated Tyrion/Daenerys scenes were worth the price of admission alone.

I love that this battle was also so entirely unexpected. Had it been episode nine, we would've known something major was coming since the show always saves a major event for E9 every season, yet surprising us an episode early made it even sweeter. God knows what they have in store for next week.

I don't recall but didn't they deviate from the "episode 9 = awesome" method last year too?
This battle was intense and the undead children were freaky awesome. Was that the little girl we saw in E1 S1 standing there?

We now know the stakes. Everyone's lives.
Because let's face it. This army cannot be stopped by the wall. They'll pile up to get over it, they'll scratch inch by inch to get through it.
No matter how many defenders, the North is doomed.
In fact, the South is doomed as well.
We need someone who can stop them. We need Dragons.

I loved Dany's naieve mind, believing that she can conquer with an army and immediately be loved like she has been in the slave cities. Nope, Tyrion provided her with a good dose of reality. It made Danaerys' story 1000x more interesting instantly.

It seems now that we've taken the plunge and are no longer following the books (in some cases being 'in front of the books') things are looking extra bleak for Westeros but extra awesome for us, the viewers.

What made episode 9 even more awesome in the even-numbered seasons is that the entire episode was devoted to just one storyline. Oh crap, this is an odd-numbered season.

The sight of a giant retreating was a hell of a thing. Doom, doom, doom.

See, I actually really liked last season with them in groups or two or three. More time to flesh out their characters and to showcase each individual's motivations and fears.
