I've been thinking of ways to do a prediction contest/pool that's slightly more manageable (and hopefully more fun!) than having folks predict 90 different matches. Here are a few ideas:
1. Snake Draft
A random draft order is created. Ten of us first draft the wrestlers from Block A according to that order. Then we draft the wrestlers from Block B in the reverse order...whoever gets first (last) pick in Block A gets last (first) pick in B. Points would accumulate according to NJPW's scoring. Then at the end, the wrestlers earn additional points according to the final Block standings (10 points for 1st place, 9 for 2nd and so on). The obvious drawback is that only ten of us can participate.
2. Select Match Prediction
Predict the winners for any 10 matches of your choosing. You can also predict draws. Earn a point for each correct pick. Throw in a tiebreaker.
Variations on this idea:
2a. Rank your predictions based on how confident you are in each prediction. Then, earn 10 points if your most confident prediction is correct, 9 for your 2nd most confident and so on.
2b. The 10 matches you predict must be selected such that each of the 20 wrestlers must be included exactly once. One way to do this is to simply select one entire day's worth of matches for each Block.
3. Boxes
Would be played the same way as Super Bowl boxes: choose boxes from a 10x10 grid where each box would, after all boxes are taken, be randomly assigned to one wrestler from Block A and one from Block B. One way points can be earned is the same way as in the Snake Draft. Can also do a 5x5 grid variation where each box is assigned to 2 wrestlers from each Block. Not as strategic as other options.
4. Standings Prediction
Predict the top three (or even four or five) wrestlers in each Block. Points would be earned according to a win/place/show type of schedule. For example, your pick for 3rd place will actually earn points if he finishes 1st, 2nd or 3rd. But the points you earn decrease for each spot he finishes higher than your prediction.
The actual tournament Finals would play no part in any of these games.
What do y'all think? Any interest? If so, what's your preference?
I'm interested no matter what format you choose. I'd prefer:
2a. I like the idea of adding confidence to your picks although is it possible to do more than 10 matches? There are 90 matches in all, would it be pretty easy to cherry pick 10 matches in the whole thing? That's less than one match per show.
1. I like the snake draft idea a lot, but like you said only 10 people can participate so I guess we'll see how many people are interested.

Does anybody want to tackle putting monetary values on each wrestler and do it DraftKings/FanDuel style where each wrestler has a monetary value and you have a certain amount of money to make your roster.
