Now you see former NBA greats like Joe Dumars, Kevin McHale, Isiah Thomas, Larry Bird and most recently for the interim basis, Avery Johnson and others becomes GMs and/or coaches.
Question for the crowd: which current players do you see becoming a future head coach or GM in the NBA?
Now in general,
For example: - Jason Kidd as head coach: he basically already is the Nets head coach now. - Shaq as GM: this NEEDS to happen. Either that or join Chuck Barkley on Inside the NBA. - Steve Nash as head coach: he'd be the new Scott Skiles, in a way.
Any other current players you'd like to see in a high-ranking NBA job?
Reggie Miller is hilarious, I'd like to see maybe ABC or ESPN pick him up and have him play the Charles Barkley "Provide basketball commentary as well as be funny & say stupid stuff" role on one of their pre/post-game shows.
I think Reggie Miller would make a fine NBA head coach some day. As it is, I wouldn't be the least surprised if the Pacers made him an assistant coach after this season.

Kidd's really the GM even more than the coach. You can lay the entire Mourning fiasco in his lap. After Bruce Ratner initiated a fire sale and traded Kenyon Martin and let Kerry Kittles walk, I thought this team was finished. Thank God Rod Thorn stuck around and was able to unload all those stiffs (Mourning included) for Vince Carter. Kidd still calls all the shots and I wonder what keeps Thorn here?
Of the current guys playing, maybe Elton Brand. Brand is a great defender and rebounder (he's an excellent scorer as well), he's extremely smart and always strives to be in control of the floor (and that's hard with the Clips). Throw in the Coach K influence and I could see it.
Edit Note: Trading Elton Brand for Tyson Chandler was one of the worst deals of the past ten years, but suprisingly not the worst Bulls trade in history. That honor is reserved for the Artis Gilmore straight up for Dave Corzine and Mark Ohlberding. It hurts even to type it.
Kareem and Rick Barry have been intentionally kept out of the coaching ranks for years and deserve an opportunity. I guess the NBA family didn't like the way these two legends spoke their minds during their playing days and how they refused to kiss ass. I find it hard to believe no one thinks these men can contribute.
