New Fall show descriptions:

MINORITY REPORT – sequel series to the 2002 film, set ten years after the Precrime division is shut down. But one of the precogs uses his abilities to help out a DC detective.

GRANDFATHERED – Bachelor extraordinaire John Stamos deals with the surprise appearance of his adult son, and *his* baby daughter.

THE GRINDER – Rob Lowe is not a lawyer. He just plays one on TV. Well, not anymore, after his TV show ends. Now, he’s back in his hometown helping out his brother, Fred Savage, who *is* a real-life attorney.

SCREAM QUEENS – latest from Ryan Murphy. Comedy/horror anthology series. With Emma Roberts, Jamie Lee Curtis, Lea Michele, and a whole host of others.

ROSEWOOD – procedural dealing with brilliant and optimistic pathologist. That’s a crazy spin on the House character formula!

Shows coming later…

THE X-FILES – Six-episode reboot which debuts in the really cushy post-NFC Championship Game slot.

THE GUIDE TO SURVIVING LIFE –comedy about a guy (and his buddies) who makes inappropriate choices in life, so that we don’t have to make the same mistakes. See, it’s a guide. To surviving life.

BORDERTOWN – latest from Seth MacFarlane, which was originally on last year’s slate (The W).

THE FRANKENSTEIN CODE – murdered former corrupt LA County Sheriff is resurrected by billionaire tech-genius twins as a younger and stronger version of himself.

LUCIFER – based on the Vertigo comic series about the Devil, who lives life in LA after getting bored reigning in Hell.

Also coming is a live, three-hour production of GREASE. Existing shows coming back later in the season include NEW GIRL and AMERICAN IDOL (in its last season, as StaggerLee mentioned (The W))

I was definitely not expecting New Girl to get shafted to the spring schedule. Has that show fallen out of favor or something?

The only end point I can think of is one of the original main voices no longer being capable or willing to continue. And even then there'd be at attempt at replacing with someone else before giving up the ghost. It must still make money, and it's probably a source of network pride for being one of the network's first shows.

There is no such thing as too much John Stamos on TV. However, "John Stamos as a grandfather" doesn't feel nostalgic. I just feel old now. :(

X-Files is a total win. Gotham at 8pm works for me, but how it gets past the censors is beyond me.

I don't know if the ratings warranted a renewal...they were pretty bad this season, but maybe they were OK relative to other shows on the network. They're laughably promoting this move as the show's "first-ever season of virtually uninterrupted originals", as if that was a thing non-serial sitcoms should aspire to.

And here are trailers (fox.com) for some of the new shows.

Reportedly it was to accommodate Zooey's pregnancy, though in that same report I read, it said they already shot four episodes for next season in advance for that same reason... I'm fine with them wrapping it up next season regardless.

I saw this and thought "man this is a bold move for a show, especially seeing as how Constantine is going away". Then I saw the trailer and saw Californication creator Tom Kapinos was writing for it and I lost my shit. I love that show so much and playful, dark, smarmy, bad boy fallen angel is right up Kapinos alley. This could be a must watch and I hope it does well.

Cole: "Yeah, thanks to Kane. You should buy Kane a Rolex watch for what he did for you."
Rollins: "Oh don't be silly, Kane doesn't wear watches."
