Going to my first Hockey game (Islanders at Barclays Center).
Where do I want to sit? Is it cool to sit by the Zamboni entrance? How much better is it to sit lower down than higher up? How about end vs. middle? How annoying is "limited view" seats? Any other advice?
Limited view is very annoying because you want to see the action. I think there were some big issues in the Barclay with this so I don't think I'd go for it.. Especially if it limits your view around the two nets. That sucks.
If you sit in the middle you'll obviously see everything as you're the same distance from both goals. But there is something to be said for sitting in a corner or behind goal and seeing them scramble against the boards and such. And behind goal obviously limits the view just a little bit (when they are against the boarding right in front of you) but not in an annoying way.
The zamboni, not really that important though most likely that's also the exit/entrance the away team has to use so maybe that's a reason to sit there.
I'd try sitting in the lower half, usually you still have a good overview of the rink but obviously you're much closer. And I assume the Islanders tckets are relatively cheap compared so hopefully that doesn't break the bank.
The above should be good to go by, yeah. "Limited View" is something that only really exists in the Barclay's Center as far as NHL arenas go, as it wasn't built with hosting NHL games in mind. Those seats should probably be avoided at all costs. Beyond that, lower is generally better. You're closer to the action and can better appreciate the speed of the game. Being right down in the first few rows can make it harder to see the play when it's farther from you, but as mentioned above, it's quite an experience to have the players and puck smacking up against the glass right in front of you, so that's an experience worth having as a hockey fan.
In my opinion, the best place to sit is as close to the front row of the upper deck as possible, either at a corner, or near the center line.
I've seen several NHL games and a metric ton of minor league games. Being by the glass is cool, but you will miss a lot of the action. I know it sounds the opposite of what you would expect, but when it's that close, you can't follow all the action and watch the blue line.
Either way, Hockey is the best live sport in the world.
Moe where you got your tickets (a corner) is where I like it best. I like higher thought, usually half back or so.
I love hockey live so much. The sounds are incredible. Watch the warmups closely. The skill players have a lot of fun

OMFG I have some terrible experiences with that. Team gets the puck in the attacking zone... guy behind me: ShOOT IT! There was no shot available, they pass it around... guy behind me: SHOOT IT! (grumbling...no wonder they suck, they don't shoot the puck) SHOOT IT! Eventually they started shooting after pulling the D apart and he still kept shouting for more shots. Ugh.
And yes, AWArulz is right. Be there early if you can for the warmups. fun to see them go through their individual routines too. There's always going to be a guy that needs to be on the ice first or leave last. There's always someone who wants to take that specific last shot at the goal (and a goalie who might believe he should always stop that last one)

There's been people with those things at Admirals games since the mid 1990s. Used to work there and we hated that noise too.
