The NY fans let their feelings be known again as to the direction they want Dolan to take with the club - 4 years ago Slats was brought in because he knew how to build a competitive exciting young team out of scraps and the NYR were old, broken, overpaid and on the scrap heap - fastforward to today and the Rangers are older, more broken, more overpaid and buried in the scrap heap - the proposed Jagr trade reeks of even more desperation - the NYR need a defenseman and a goalie - not Jagr
and if there is a hockey god in heaven, please don't let me see those horrendous disco jerseys on them ever again - ooh la la

Ha! Those jerseys, disco is right...before home games they should kill the lights, hit the fog machine and strobe lights and have the Rangers strut out onto the ice to the strains of "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?".
Seriously, though, the Sather years in New York have been an unmitigated disaster. Despite a near-bottomless bank account, the Genius has achieved absolutely nothing. The team's policy of throwing more money at its problems simply hasn't worked. Getting Jagr would not help things. As Dunkndollaz said, the team needs defensive help, not another offensive star who won't buy into the concept of 'team'. The Rangers do have some valuable assets, especially given how well Lindros has played this year, but most of the team is aging and slowing. Dumping some of their marquee names for younger players (not prospects) would be a good move, but one wonders whether anyone in the league wants overpaid, undermotivated stars, especially with the threat of a lockout/strike next year.
As matters stand, I'd be surprised to see the Rangers make the playoffs, and I don't think adding Jaromir Jagr will change their prospects for the future.

Oh boy...do I ever agree with that one.
Yup, Jagr for Carter...and soon Bondra for Shane Hnidy.
Who is Shane Hnidy you ask? A 6th defencemen for the Senators, who at best might be your number 3 on a bottom feeding team. Thanks McPhee....we will make that trade any day...
Jesus, Ferguson Jr, if the Caps only want a crappy defenseman for him, the Leafs have plenty of those to give up! My take on the Rangers/Caps trade....who cares? Both teams ain't making the playoffs.

CJ: “That’s Mah Stank”? MH: On the front it’ll say “Can You Smell It?” and on the back it’ll say “That’s Mah Stank”. Everybody’ll buy it because they’ll think it’s a Rock shirt. You know, I have a feeling that Spanky didn’t quit, he was fired. Why? So they could repackage Mark Henry as “Stanky.” Think about THAT! --Matt "Excalibur05" Hocking, 1/19/04 Raw Satire

Definitely, the idea of adding Jagr(especially at the expense of Anson Carter) seems like a horrible idea.
The Rangers wore the "Disco" in the John Ferguson as GM and Espo as their Center days of the late 70's - check out this link http://www.nhluniforms.com/1970s/Rangers5.html for the Rangers circa 1977-78 for an example
and the only way I can even begin to think to put some positive spin on this trade is to convince myself that Jagr's addition will actually wake Kovalev up - it will almost be like getting a 2nd player in the deal......yeah.....right.....

Two very worthy additions to the hall. Fuhr was a monster in his day, and I don't think Gretzky would have the amount of championships if not for him. Pat LaFontaine was another great player.
