COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Columbus Blue Jackets acquired six-time All-Star center Sergei Fedorov and a fifth-round pick in 2006 on Tuesday from the Anaheim Mighty Ducks for forward Tyler Wright and rookie defenseman Francois Beauchemin.
As a Ducks fan, I'm not digging that trade too much, even though Sergei has been injured most of the year.
I'm not much of a hockey fan though, so I asked my hockey-enthused roomate about it; his exact quote was "are you kidding me?" when he read the players involved. He did say though that its probably to clear cap space for next year.

The idea of loyalty in the "New" NHL is long and gone. It's all about the cap space.
Go easy on my Hurricanes!!! Keep in mind, they had Brendan Shanahan once upon a time, and NEARLY signed Federov himself out of free agency before Detroit swooped in and matched the 5 year / $55mil deal that Carolina was offering.
No such thing as small market teams anymore under the new NHL anyway, so I'd get used to seeing deals like this.
