Okay, here's my question. Due to my horrible sucking last season, I have the number one pick in the league I am playing in. I have to prerank my players in case I won't be available for the draft (Its two days before my wife's due date). We do a wraparound draft where I get the first pick, then it goes to the 11 next players, then in reverse order back to me. So, in theory, I get the best non franchise player, then the 24th and 25th best players.

My franchise player is Tom Brady, so my initial thought was to draft Gronkowski to double up on points every week.
We do have a scoring system that rewards passing nicely. However the only RBs that are franchised by other players are AP, Adrian Foster and Lesean McCoy. Rushers are always at a premium, so I am concerned that by the time it gets back to me, the legit #1 RBs will be off the board.

In your guys wisdom, am I better off going for a player like Ray Rice, Chris Johnson, Matt Forte, etc to ensure I have a top tier RB, or do I go for the passing target for Brady?

The other quandry I have is for QBs, there are a lot of good ones not protected. Matt Ryan, Peyton Manning, Cam Newton, Matt Schaub, to name a few. How soon would be TOO soon to take another QB?

Just my two cents, but you have Tom Brady. Just about any time would be too soon to be grabbing another quarterback, unless you want the trade bait (which, since you have the #1 pick, you might be able to work out with someone in advance.)

Forte has injury issues and Johnson has performance issues to address. They might be worth a high pick, but not #1. Gronk should be good at tight end but given all the Pats passing options, there are questions about how sustainable last year's numbers are. He'll still be good, but I don't think he's #1 good. I vote for grabbing Rice.

Sounds like you only keep one, in which case, there's an chance that Gronk may be available at the end of the second anyway.

I agree with Eddie. I think that there are really only three running backs that you can consider a sure thing because of all the injuries and other question marks. Only one of those backs, Ray Rice, is available so I'd say he would be an easy choice for me.

I would especially consider Rice because the receiving options are very very deep. There are players like Hakeem Nicks, Julio Jones and Miles Austin going in the 30s, Dez Bryant, Jeremy Maclin, Antonio Gates and Percy Harvin going in the 40s, Aaron Hernandez, Brandon Lloyd and Vincent Jackson going in the 50s. Heck, Brandon Pettigren caught 80+ passes for 700+ yards and 5 TDs and he's only being drafted 80th in Yahoo leagues.

I also agree that Gronk's numbers will go down. The Patriots added Brandon Lloyd and not many people point out that Hernandez didn't start 4 games last year (and was not 100% in other games) b/c of injuries. Not many people realize it but before Hernandez got injured in 2011 he and Gronk had almost the exact same numbers in their career and it could have continued that way if he didn't get injured.

In defense of Leaf (can't believe I said that), he'd be more of a bust because coming out of college he seemed promising. There was a big debate over "who would you take? Ryan Leaf or Peyton Manning"?
