Since the first month of the season is over, I figured I may as well put this stat up since a good number of fantasy leagues and sports analysts swear by this stat:

Efficiency Formula:
((PTS + REB + AST + STL + BLK) - ((FGA - FGM) + (FTA - FTM) + TO)) / G

1. Kevin Garnett (Minnesota Timberwolves) 14games 34.43
2. Tim Duncan (San Antonio Spurs) 16games 28.44
3. Dirk Nowitzki (Dallas Mavericks) 15games 28.33
4. LeBron James (Cleveland Cavaliers) 15games 28.20
5. Dwyane Wade (Miami Heat) 14games 27.07
6. Amare Stoudemire (Phoenix Suns) 15games 26.27
7. Shawn Marion (Phoenix Suns) 15games 26.07
8. Kobe Bryant (Los Angeles Lakers) 16games 25.44
9. Shaquille O'Neal (Miami Heat) 16games 24.06
10. Carlos Boozer (Utah Jazz) 16games 23.94
11. Steve Nash (Phoenix Suns) 15games 23.47
12. Stephon Marbury (New York Knicks) 14games 23.43
13. Antawn Jamison (Washington Wizards) 13games 23.08
14. Paul Pierce (Boston Celtics) 14games 23.07
15. Chris Webber (Sacramento Kings) 15games 22.60
16. Elton Brand (Los Angeles Clippers) 16games 22.31
17. Zach Randolph (Portland Trail Blazers) 14games 21.86
18. Ray Allen (Seattle SuperSonics) 17games 21.65
19. Andrei Kirilenko (Utah Jazz) 14games 21.57
20. Brad Miller (Sacramento Kings) 15games 21.47
21. Chauncey Billups (Detroit Pistons) 12games 20.83
22. Larry Hughes (Washington Wizards) 12games 20.75
23. Steve Francis (Orlando Magic) 14games 20.64
24. Bobby Simmons (Los Angeles Clippers) 16games 20.13
25. Pau Gasol (Memphis Grizzlies) 13games 20.08

This is the scoring formula used in ESPN's Fast Break Game....Garnett is always near the top and his efficiency #'s are actually off a little this year from last - LeBron has been huge but Dwayne Wade has been the early steal of the season

I've always wanted the stat "points per attempt" which would calculate the average number of points scored per attempt to score. In essence (I think)

Points scored/FGA+(FTA/2)

Although you'd have to tweak it to account for getting fouled shooting a three and the old-fashioned three-point-play.

Easy to see how the Suns are doing so good when they have 3 players in the top 11... for what it's worth, here at the efficiency leaders per 48 minutes:

http://www.nba.com/statistics/2004/default_regular_season_48_minute_leaders/LeagueLeadersEFF8Query.html?topic=1&stat=13

Biggest jump is Pau going up all the way to 11th from 25th, and also the likes of Danny Fortson and Raef LaFrentz showing up in the top 20. Kobe falls all the way down to 24th, tied with Mehmet Okur.
