Well, the strip poker was certainly the smuttiest, most low brow thing the WWE has put on in forever.
Color me offended.
The WWE: We bait and switch on quality matches, but by GAWN we will give you lowbrow pixelated porn.
Seriously, that was trashy and nothing that needed to be put on TV.
It WAS more entertaining than Shammy getting smoked by Tito though.
Otherwise, typical ECW show. Punk continues to roll, Dreamer gets a suprising win (are they souring over Vamp and Vamparella?) and a nice blowff on the Sandy/Strike imbroglio.
Silly ecw fan 4 life, they didn't air it to the live crowd. I was surprised we didn't get any inside parts from Maria for CM Punk, but then we did get one: her vagina. Trashy and embarrassing stuff for sure. Though it was pretty funny when Kristal said she had diamonds on her boobs dia-diamonds on her boobs.
I figured the most we would see at the end of the strip poker game would be a couple of the divas topless with their hands covering their breasts. I sure didn't expect that ending.
It's probably a good bet that Maria and Candice had on pasties and a thong under that pixelation.........but still..........wow.

On the plus side, they promised that women would get naked, and "by gawd"(tm), they did. Plus, be glad Lawler was not calling that show.
Though I of course agree with the comments about it being trashy and lowbrow. I was actually having a conversation with my girlfriend and my parents a couple nights ago about how she does not watch wrestling, and my girlfriend mentioned that she has seen about 5 minutes of wrestling total and it did not "grab" her. Thank the good Lord that she did not choose last night to check out this wrestling thing and see what it is all about. :)
My tape cut off just before the ending, but suffice to say that the strip poker was not my cup of tea.
I may be getting old, but I watch wrestling to see wrestling. Maybe it's because I'm married and I actually get to see girl parts and enjoy marital relations. Maybe it's because I can always flip to Skinemax to see soft-core porn. Maybe it's because I can always go to the PPV satellite channels for hard-core stuff, but the divas playing strip poker simply did not appeal to me.
I did enjoy Punk's match, the Dreamer match was okay and the 6-man was fun - who'd have thunk that Sabu would play Ricky Morton?
I hope WWE doesn't waste any more time on a wrestling show with crap like that. Having said that, I'll go sit on my rocker, complain about the loud kids next door and wait on my social security check.
University of Kentucky basketball isn't a matter of life and death, it's much more important than that.
There was a good 15-minute-or-so stretch of last night's show with no wrestling-related content whatsoever. It was all strip poker, commercials, "The Marine," more strip poker, more commercials -- you get the idea. In an hour-long show, that isn't really acceptable.
By the way, am I the only guy in the world who doesn't find stripper antics sexy? I'd rather see a woman take off her top than take off her top like a stripper. You know, all slow and whorish and with arms bent and all close together. That sort of thing. I think I find stripper-like behavior sexier when the woman in question doesn't actually look like a stripper, an advantage not enjoyed by any of the strip-poker competitors. But I "make passes at girls who wear glasses," as they say, so perhaps I'm not the best example.

I'm with you and know exactly what you mean.
Nothing like watching a woman that looks and is dressed like a librarian take off the nerdy glasses and then let's her hair down while shaking her head, followed by undoing the buttons on her suit jacket and then.........
Sorry for not being able to differ between nudity and nudity, but didn't WWE just state that "Nudity of any kind, even in a live television environment, is offensive to our audience and to the reputation of our company." ? So where is the difference to Regal and the chicks?
I don't really understand what all the fuzz is about. Seriously, what the hell was there to be offended about? What was so smutty? There was a "nude" catfight, but pixilated. It wasn't worse than the average Halloween/thanksgiving diva/foodfight segments. Not worse than The kat dropping her top a few years ago. Or any accidental nipslip or what you got. And certainly less "i so don't need this" than any Mae Young stripact.
It wasn't even 20 minutes out of your life. Yes, you watch wrestling for wrestling. Not for porn. This wasn't anything near porn. And btw, it does fit the whole ECW vibe that they are the ones doing 'smut' like this. *cough*Kimonawanalaya*cough*
The difference between this and Regal btw: They had a warning here, and you didn't see anything.

The only problem that I had with it was that they showed it split-screen during wrestling segments. When they show Diva Search and crap like that, I can just fast-forward. But here it was scrunching the wrestling I tuned in to watch smaller so they could show half naked girls prancing about. Don't get me wrong, I thought it was ever so slightly entertaining, but too obtrusive.

The problem with that is that McCool doesn't look like a teacher, she looks like a stripper who's supposed to look like a teacher. Did you ever have a teacher who dressed like that, or had her hair and makeup done up like that? Ditto Miss Hancock, though Keibler certainly is one of the more attractive women I've seen in wrestling.

Not to be nit-picky, but Michelle McCool is a former seventh grade teacher from Palatka, Fl. so the idea for the gimmick isn't completely out of thin year of ill-conceived. Yes, she's tarted up to be a slut and that's unrealistic, but that's kinda the point. It's the whole over-exagerration of a real life chracter trait that the E pawns off on the audience. And again, I've just devoted wayyy to many words to Michell McCool but I just wanted to point that out.

Me neither. I hate to sound like a hater, but he still hasnt done anything in ECWWE that separates him in my mind from your basic Velocity jobber.
Is he being "held back"? Not "glass ceiling" held back, but is he not doing any of the things that made him into the Internet Indie Star he is today or something? I am totally missing the boat on him.
Let's talk about the matches. I was surprised by the losses on the show: Dupree and Thorn and Striker.
CM Punk strayed from his pattern by using a nice shortarm powerslam before the Anaconda. Although Rene was able to retain some dignity by moving well with Punk and escaping a total squash, he nonetheless lost clean and quickly.
Thorn's clean loss allowed Dreamer to do not only win by setting up and nailing the DDT for the pin but get revenge for his earlier loss following the cane shot.
Sandman begged RVD to tag him in so he could finish off Striker, and that's just what happened. Show was fairly easily dispatched at the end, I thought.
So Punk beats a guy with substantial promo establishment and a win against Mahoney. Dreamer shocks the world by pinning the undefeated Thorn. Sandman seemingly gets his revenge on Striker in what felt like a blow-off match. And then there was the college freshmen-targeting poker party.
Considering the booking, this felt somewhat like the ECW version of a TBS Clash.

A couple of things:
1. Punk is not a terribly flashy worker, so he's not going to do anything awe-inspiring in a 5 minute match. He has high spots, but he's not going to load them up in a Lucha train wreck sort of way.
2. Punk can be an awesome worker. However, he is definitely aided in reputation by being lucky enough to make his name in ROH at a time with other awesome workers on the roster. He became big going against Raven in matches tailored to Raven's hardcore strengths. He feuded with AJ Styles. His breakout feud was with Samoa Joe. He and Colt Cabana feuded with the Briscoes. He's had awesome opponents and a much larger canvas on which to work, which made him look as good as he possibly could. This kind of ties into point 3.
3. This also may be why he has dumbed down his moveset somewhat. Obviously he can't do the Pepsi Plunge anymore (Pedigree-like manuver), but he's removed a good amount of other things from his moveset as well. Part of it might be because he's been told to emphasize certain parts of his character that aren't his strongest points. Joey is desperate to get over the idea of him as a quasi-MMA sort of guy, but that's not his strong suit. So instead of working a match more geared to his strengths he has to try and work in knee strikes and the Samoa Joe slapfest and things like that.
4. The time element. Take any wrestler you like. Put them in a 4-5 minute match with Rene Dupree or Stevie Richards, where both guys have to get a little offense. Odds are that unless they are just going out of their way to do as many crazy moves as they can, the match will seem nondescript.
I know I come off as a Punk apologist with this post. And I am. I've seen they guy put on some of my favorite matches of the last 5 years. I've seen him fire up crowds unlike most anyone else I've seen in years. I know what he can do. I don't know if he can do it in ECW. I hope he can.

You're just being informative. And I agree with you. You can't really watch Punk beat Justin Credible in three minutes and think "oh, so this is the great C.M. Punk, big whoop." He didn't make his reputation doing JTTS squashes.
Also, he might not be doing moves that make you jump up out of your seat, (understandably) underwhelming people who have high expectations based on the drones (not you) that this guy is the be-all end-all. But his push has worked -- he's pretty over with the live crowd, who've responded to the way he's been debuted, slowly built up, and protected.
