He was last seen in the Super Bowl when a sure INT slipped through his fingers. He now makes his way to Philadelphia in shame.

ESPN - Eagles sign Samuel to six-year contract

PHILADELPHIA -- The Eagles have signed free-agent cornerback Asante Samuel.

The Eagles agreed to a six-year contract on Friday with Samuel, who spent the last five seasons with New England and had 16 interceptions the last two years.

Samuel also tied the NFL career playoff record with three interceptions returned for TDs.

It's a great signing for the Eagles and should go a long way in helping them keep up with the Giants and Cowboys.

Glad we got him, but I worry how good he'll look playing in what's basically a completely different scheme from that he just left. The record of guys who leave the Pats for big money is about as good as the record of guys we sign for big money.

I'll be sad to see Lito go as well which now looks likely. He's had trouble staying healthy though I guess, and seems to be a bit pissy about a contract he only signed a couple years back.

Overall, if we can get something worthwhile for Lito trade-wise like say, Larry Fitzgerald (I know, Eagles fan with a WR obsession - big surprise), I'll be happy about it. Until then, not so much.

And what team threw that possible interception? Only one that we'll play at least twice every year...

I'm not thrilled about this. Mostly for the reason's dMr listed above, but also, it seems like Asante isn't going to be worth the money they are paying him. They should never have let Roderick Hood go to AZ two years ago.

Is there any way we can keep Sheppard on the team and dump Joselio Hanson? And still get Fitzgerald out of the deal? Actually, rather than him, I'd rather see the Eagles chase Chad Johnson, if his issues with Marvin Lewis in Cincy haven't been resolved yet.

The ideal scenario would be that the Eagles keep Lito, start he and Samuel, and move Sheldon Brown to safety (and hopefully send Sean Considine somewhere far far away). That likely won't happen. At the end of the day, while I think that a healthy Asante Samuel is an upgrade over a non-healthy Lito (if he can stay healthy though, it's a wash), I don't think it matters at all if the pass rush doesn't get better.

Chad Johnson isn't coming to Philly, and given how he's been acting lately, I'm not sure I want him to. Fitzgerald would be a nice addition, but there's the matter of his contract, which, from everything I've read, is structured in such a way that's going to make any team think twice before trading for him.

My head says Fitzgerald's the better fit (big red zone threat guy) but I'd LOVE Chad Johnson. Sadly the worst thing about the whole TO debacle is we probably won't see us take a chance on a WR with 'character issues' any time soon. Me, I think Chad's always been more Goofy Idiot than Assholic, and I'd happily help fund his contract to the tune of $85 through the power of shirt sales, but I just don't see it.

The annoying thing is we should be sitting here happy that we've either just got ourselves the best secondary in football (via the rejig eventhis suggests) or a means to get the stand out WR the offence needs. Instead part of me worries that we'll trade Lito for a first day draft pick that'll get blown on some shiny new OT that turns out to be the next Winston Justice.

Not at all. The ideal scenario would be to send Sean somewhere relatively nearby. New York, Dallas.... I'm really not fussy.

I believe in the Damian Woody theory which states that no Patriot goes on to do much of anything once he's out of the Patriot system.

As an Eagles fan I am curious about this signing. I would rather keep Lito myslef as well.

As far as the WR thing goes, here we go again. I would love Chad Johnson also. But TO burned any bridge that Chad Johnson, Randy Moss, et. al. need to cross.

I will take Fitzgerald though.

In a jail cell in Chicago, Tank Johnson just pooped himself seeing these penalties. See ya in '08 Tank...maybe.
