I've always been a fan of his. I like this a lot as it gives WWE a potential main event face. RAW needs one immediately. His style works better for the WWE presentation than AEW, and he can trade flips with Richochet, Rey, and AJ right out out of the gate. Everyone wins.
But they gotta use the guy better than before, not just pad the roster to spite AEW.

I agree that it would be good if they did, but I don't think that they have to. Honestly, I'm not sure who thought this was a good idea. WWE already employs way too many people - when was the last time you saw the Ascension, or Shelton Benjamin, or Heath Slater, or Liv Morgan? They don't have enough TV time for the guys they have now.
