I heard rumors of this last week. Apparently he's going to try to go independent like Jim Rome. Like the article says, he could have trouble. But good luck to him.
Originally posted by odessasteps A rumor that I have heard is that he might try and goto WFAN, either in the morning slot or in the afternoon if M&MD move to mornings.
I hope they invite Dibs back for one guest shot.
Is that the opening created by Imus' departure?
Locally, I'm curious what the ESPN station will do. They go local after Mike and Mike until DP, and have a local show that starts an hour early in part of the market (an hour before the end of DP's slot). I could handle more of the local shows, if it isn't too much for the on-air talent.

Well, if Patrick tried to syndicate himself (like Rome), he would be out there for local stations to pick up, especially if people don't like who ESPN puts in Patrick's slot.
edit: WFAN rumors shot down by Newsday's Neil Best.
I'm really curious to see who ESPN fills that spot with. I mean, his show was a pretty big show, and to follow it up...who do they put in there?
I would love to see them put Rome on, since he works for them already, but I dont see them being able to work out anything with Premiere, and the timeslots are off as well.
Please, please, not Doug Gottlieb, that's all I ask, I'd rather see someone like John Seibel get the job over him.

WFAN would have been stupid to pick up Patrick, and they would be insane to move Mike and the Dog from afternoons to morning permanently, especially once football season starts. Why screw up something that has worked for almost 2 decades? As for the story from Newsday, midday has been the Black Hole of Calcutta since the inception of FAN, but I wouldn't mind moving Carlin in to work with Benigno (hey, I like any announcer who could realistically commit suicide on the air when his team loses) in that timeslot. Get the kid Roberts, whose version of ancient sports history is 2000, off the air.
Well, ESPN can go several routes. I don't think any of them go anywhere particularly good. They could plug in Colin Cowherd, whom I personally despise, but he's a young guy who pulls in decent ratings, so I can see ESPN giving him a chance to run with the ball.
They could try and go with another ESPN personality with DP-level name value. And that would likely mean someone like Stephen A. Smith. Of course, needless to say, that'd be a nightmare scenario because I don't think a national audience can handle him for three hours a day. Hell, I can't even handle him on a five-minute Sportscenter segment.
They COULD try and place Jim Rome in the slot, but I was never a big fan of Rome's shows. And I don't think he's as big a draw as he says he is. Still, this is one of the better scenarios.
Hey, maybe we can get lucky and ESPN will cut a deal with Tony Kornheiser. Yeah, I doubt it too, but it'd be neat, wouldn't it?
Hard to say who they'll put in DP's slot. But let us all pray to God that ESPN doesn't decide to suddenly give Stuart Scott a radio show.

Why not Kenny Mayne? He isn't doing much! Trey Wingo is always good when he fills in for Greeny...hmm...I don't forsee anyone else handle a 4 hour show...although I would love for Steve Berthume to try to pull it off, he has the voice and the humor for it.

In a perfect world, they'd back up the Brinks trucks and get Tony Bruno and/or Gary Radnich (preferably "and") exposed (or in Bruno's case, re-exposed) to the national audience. Bruno seems determined to burn bridges, though, having left BOTH ESPN and FOX, and Radnich is perfectly content where he is (and God bless him for it, but I'm too lazy to dial up KNBR online - also, it would kinda conflict with the fact that I'm supposed to be working during those hours - actually, I don't listen to ANY of these shows due to the fact that I'm supposed to be working during those hours, so really I don't have anything helpful to add. Thanks for reading!)
Yeah, not good news. They definately shouldn't go with any of the normal subs they use when Dan is out, such as Seibel or Gottlieb. They suck. Not as bad as say when Patrick McEnroe did the show but jeez. I don't see them moving Colin to that time, he does fine where he's at and he's kinda grating after a while. Only reason I listen to him is he's the only radio guy they have with a clue about college football.
I could maybe see them trying to put Kuselias back on in that slot, but I know he's got the NASCAR thing. He's at least decent.

I would love it if they put Kuselias in there if it got him off NASCAR Now, because he is the shittiest TV host EVER. Perhaps they could replace him with someone who actually KNOWS about NASCAR.

It is truly a sad day indeed. DP was my favorite sports guy ever. He's the kind of guy where if something big or good or bad happened that was sports-related, the first thing I would think is "Ooh, I wonder what DP is gonna say about this tomorrow". Yes, I have a man-crush on Dan Patrick.
With that out of the way, the only DP-subs I have ever liked are when they let my local afternoon guys sub for him about once a year (because I am biased) and I loved when they had Linda Cohn(sp?) do it a couple times a couple years ago. I thought she was awesome. All of the others completely suck.
DP said earlier in the week that his last day would be Friday August 17 and that whole week would consist of farewell shows with special guests and "best of" clips".
How-EVA[/Steven A.], today's show was hosted by Scott van Pelt, who sucked, with ZERO mentions of Dan Patrick (except for a few pre-recorded ads he appears in), and SvP didnt even give out the usual DP email address that the fill-ins give out. Instead, he gave out "radio@espnradio.com". In addition, SvP mentioned at the end of the show that he would be back tomorrow (Friday) and there was no indication throughout the show that he was only filling in.
Also, did I mention that Scott van Pelt SUUUUUUUUUUXED~!!1!!!11 today?
I guess Dan could've been overwhelmed with an offer, but it more sounds like all that "I'm not sure what I'm doing next" talk earlier this week was just talk.
If it was a guy not on Dan Patrick's level with ESPN, I'd be sure he'd be never mentioned again, and the previously hyped Goodbye Week isn't happening, because what they were doing on the radio show today was what you do want the old guy to stop existing.
I'll have to see where I read it, but the rumors were flying last week that he was demanding a huge salary and they showed him the door. Then the reconciled and decided on his return and farewell date.
He wasn't on yesterday which I chalked up to maybe just being the cancer fund raiser thing but it seemed kinda fishy and then today it was obvious.
Well, Allaccess.com is reporting that he already has a syndication deal done. Scott Van Pelt just opened today's show, and "announcer voice guy" welcomed us to ESPN Radio, not the Dan Patrick show. We'll see if he's already gone.

Saw this yesterday. Talk about a slow burn of a movie. LOTS of time building to the climax, which, considering most horror movies these days, was not much of a climax. But, overall, a decent entertaining movie.
