The game is practically unplayable since it is loaded with glitches and loading issues. The Xbox Live portion of the game is completely unoperational, not that you'd wanna play online with anybody anyway.
I'm gonna go to EB tomorrow and complain about it until they give me a full refund. There's no reason to release a game that is this buggy. It's like they shipped an incomplete version of the game or something.

I learned my lesson with WWE Raw 2... worst game I've ever played, with so many AI bugs that the game makes no damn sense. I am waiting until a full GameSpot review until I even rent the thing.
I'm waiting until THQ makes an announcement concerning the buggy discs. It sounds like the copies they sent to reviewers works fine since those had online play functional. I think someone at THQ made the boneheaded decision to mass produce an earlier build instead of the final build.
I was going to post that exact same thing when the IGN review went up but wanted to wait for at least one other site to put their's up as well...I should have known better. When even IGN gives you a poor (by their standards) rating, you know it's going to be an abomination.
What's annoying is it was a totally different developer than Raw and Raw 2. Yeah, they were both published by THQ but the development studios were different. I never would have guessed that they'd manage to make something even WORSE than the Raw games.
Rumors abound about a "recall" to fix the problems, or at least the XBox Live error. I don't know if that will happen or not. It's pretty rare that a game is recalled no matter how crappy it is, but this could be different since a major selling point of the game and something advertised heavily in the game's promotion is not even working.
Regardless, like sentonBOMB I learned my lesson last time as well. I bought Raw 2 for full price and sold it a week later. Won't get fooled again. As much as I can't stand EA's attitude I almost wish they had the WWE rights. At least they'd make sure the game they put out would be decent. THQ hasn't done anything really solid since the N64 games using the No Mercy/Wrestlemania 2000 engine. I know some people enjoy the Smackdown games and the GC Day of Reckoning game, but I think that's more a case of everything else being horrible rather than those games being really outstanding.
No Mercy for N64, when I bought it the day it came out, was chock full of glitches and bugs, namely that all my saved data would erase itself after an hour of play. THQ has done it before, and seeing how the release of WM21 is paramount to No Mercy in terms of sheer anticipation, I wouldn't be shocked if they did it again. I swear, if this product that has come out is what some cornholes at the video game magazines and websites have been hyping for months now, I'm going to pay them a visit and we'll have a chat.
Hold nothing sacred and you'll never be dissapointed. Especially not this statement.
I wish someone would get Spike to do a wrestling game here. nothing beats the gameplay of the fire pro series, crappy(yet charming) graphics and all. i havent gotten to play much of the king of colisseum games unfortunately, but i hear good things. you'd think someone would copy the game mechanics by now, especially for the xbox where its failing.
back on topic..i got WM 21 and the reviews are right...the hit detection is crazy. and its way to easy to cheese the CPU. but if you don't it will cheese you to death

So, Gamespot's review is in, and they panned it as well.
XBOX wrestling fans: My recommendation is to pick up Def Jam: Fight for NY. It's based on the same engine as No Mercy/Wrestlemania 2000, the AKI engine, without the save-game issues that plagued No Mercy. It's not a pure wrestling game, but it's the best wrestling-oriented game I've played on XBOX.
It has come to our attention that, due to a manufacturing error at the disc replication facility, gamers may experience problems utilizing the online feature in WrestleMania 21.
We are currently working to issue an auto update that will be available for download on Xbox Live as quickly as possible. Please be assured this is a standalone issue and we apologize for the inconvenience.
We appreciate your patience while we work to address this situation.

It's nice to see that they're attempting to fix the Live Problem, but is that going to help all the skipping music and freezing issues? The whole thing is really a moot point as I don't even have Xbox Live so I won't be able to download the patch even if it does help the skipping, glitching, and freezing.

Remember back in like the mid 90's when PC vaporware was running rampant and everyone pondered "Geez, they keep releasing games half done and releasing patches a few weeks later. Why can't they get it together like console games. I wonder if that could actually happen with console games."
It is now the dawn of patchable console games. Remember these days of virtually every game being finished BEFORE the release date for they may never come again.
That was said in mostly jest, but this seems like a crappy way to fix the game. What if one takes the game to a buddies house, like El Pescado's, and doesn't have Live. Are they stuck with an unplayable copy?
Here's what I'd expect if I were an affected buyer (I'm not. I don't even own an XBOX): 1) prepaid envelop to mail the disc back 2) free copy of the updated pressing 3) free mail-in coupon for a game from their greatest hits line (or whatever is the xbox equivalent) for the inconvenience.
What's amazing is that some of these kids over on the gamefaqs board are starting threads like "i didn't believe u guys. i jus got it and it loxs up. this suxors! i wish i listed to u all. i am teh sux!"

The patch is available on Live and is said to have fixed online and the glitches. I don't have Live and I am waiting to see if an Action Replay save will work.
I doubt they even put that much effort into it, and in that case they just straight up played everyone who bought that game. I doubt that there'll be riots over a video game- sooo, they most likely get away scot-free pawning this crap off to the consumers.

The patch fixes the glitches and bugs okay, but a lot of people were apparently believing that it would fix the game itself. It won't freeze anymore (at least, mine doesn't) but the collision detection and computer AI still make it an incredibly hard game to enjoy. It really feels like you're constantly trying to look past whatever issue is happening to you at the moment. The game needed another delay for at least 6 more months of testing.
The live now connects, but people are having problems with tag team matches (not able to have more than two players in it or something), and from what I've heard, any type of specialty match causes some major slowdown.
I think there's an action replay save out there now. If you find it, just be sure not to try to upload just the .rar file. There's been some frustration from people not knowing what it was. The update also requires a complete wipe of any saved data on your xbox, so don't spend too much time unlocking things or creating a character, because they won't last.
Edit: I meant just a complete wipe of any 'Wrestlemania 21 save data' on your xbox, not EVERY save data. Sorry for any confusion.
I am seeing now that the update is 39 megs so you have to have an Action Replay MAX which is I guess is a AR with a bigger memory card. I am not buying that so I think that is the final nail in this coffin. Too much trouble so I'm gonna pass on this one. Looks like WWE really needs to dump THQ.

Everything except the xbox live I know firsthand. The patch stopped the freezing and the skipping. I've also had the locked legends appear as usable wrestlers randomly. Every once in a while "Big Show 2003" or "The Rock" or someone will be accessable, but it resets and re-locks them once the power is turned off. I'm a little worried about spending the money to unlock them, in case it re-lcoks them then too. You CAWs are all erased, because it was necessary to make sure that they would be playable online.
There are other glitches still in it. Like if I'm climbing a ladder and a guy pushes the ladder over (not by trying to topple me, but just walking into it) the ladder will most of the time move with him, leaving me climbing the air. The AI is still stupid, with tag team partners attacking each other every once in a while, and sometimes when I tag my partner into the ring, he'll just run the ropes for 5 minutes or so until the opponent decides to stop looking at him and punch him.
I don't have xbox live, so as far as that's concerned I can only go on what the majority of people on gamefaqs have been complaining about when it comes to the patch. For example, there's a bunch of 'rules' for not getting lagged on online. Only play in the 'gymnasium' and turn the camera controls off 'broadcast' so that it doesn't have to animate a crowd. Stuff like that. Enough people are complaining about problems for me not to want to bother with online. Winnipeg isn't known for it's blazing fast internet connections to begin with.
