Has anyone tried to fix their own smartphone screens? I have a couple with cracked glass, and the only time I tried to do it was on an old beater phone. A Droid Maxx is a completely different beast, though. The only thing I'm really worried about is the adhesive and trying to heat it up to get everything loose. What should I use for this?

Just wanted to post a heads-up. There is a conflict between Microsoft's update KB951748 and ZoneAlarm. Something about that update will cause ZoneAlarm to block your browsers from internet access and ultimately shut your connection down.
