I liked the Jeff/Britta storyline. I don't know how I feel about Abed becoming more of a detached weirdo than he already was angle though. He's coming off unlikable and not just quirky. I'm not sure why they went this way, because the conversation with Evil Abed at the end seemed like they knew how this was playing out. Then again it wouldn't surprise me if this whole Abed story was a play on a whole movie/show that I'm not seeing or haven't ever seen.
It is interesting that these are the episodes they chose to make their return with. Of course they could come out with a string of home run episodes out of nowhere making us forget about these episodes that feel more like bloop singles.

It's not like they have much of a choice; what's already in the hopper is what they have to work with. It isn't South Park where they can whip together an episode in a week. They already swapped the run order for the first two back to have a more accessible episode lead-off, and other than that I'm not sure what could be done.

FWIW based on interviews the third season is supposed to be dark times for our characters. Abed's character development is often that he can't have character development while everyone else around him does, and how that affects them (Contemporary American Poultry, Critical Film Studies). I think his friendship with Troy being tested is their big arc for the rest of the season, which they started foreshadowing in the first half -- them living together now, their friendship being off-putting to Annie when she moved in, Troy deciding to hang out with Abed instead of becoming an air conditioning repair wunderkind.
All that said, no clue where all the CGI cartoon gags started coming from, or why.

I was under the assumption that there was still filming to be done when they were put on the shelf. I didn't know that they had the whole season in the can already.

I haven't seen an imagination like that since the Muppet Babies.

Oh, they had plenty left to shoot, but with almost every script about ready to film I'm not sure what they should have done. Throwing a random episode at the beginning doesn't seem like Harmon's style, and I'll take what we've gotten from the show over trying to appeal to the unwashed masses currently ignoring the awesomeness radiating from Thursday nights.
Loved French Stewart as the French Stewart impersonator and Brita and Troy as Michael Jacksons. Also Jeff being Ryan Seacrest turning into the Hulk was great as well, complete with sad piano melody.
Was remedial chaos theory all just Abed's imagination for each possible outcome? Which means that the introduction of Evil Abed and Evil Troy was all his imagining as well, why is why he's able to encounter Evil Abed in his private space? Because its either that, or Evil Troy and Evil Abed have broken through (The W).
I agree that the last two weeks have felt like off weeks, but its Community so its still awesome.
I had no idea how much I missed this show's wacky antics. I love the other current great sitcoms (eg. Parks), but the surrealism of Community is something I crave. It's like a live-action Sealab 2021.
I also gotta say that these new episodes so far haven't done much for me. There are still enough callbacks and hilarity to make this a good show. Now if it is true that this season will be dark, they might lose me after this season.

That seems Jim Rash.
FWIW Harmon and his Joseph Campbell circle-thingy says the darkest hour is right before the dawn.
Jacobs: Yeah. According to Dan Harmon’s story circle, this is the dark night of the soul.
Ganz: This is where everyone makes their decisions and atones with their fathers. Troy and Abed, their relationship comes to a fork. It’s perfect for two seasons, and then they have to deal with the things that are different about them. Then Season 4 is like spring and everything is new. People have adjusted to their environments and they’re ready to move on with the next phase.
Brie: It’s just reanalyzing: wait, why are we friends?
I think leading with three normalz after a long break in which Community changed from a show into a cause was bound to mess with people's expectations. I don't mean you, Torch Slasher, I mean the Community community in general. You spend three months with an idealized conception of the show you're being deprived of in terms of your all-time favorite moments, and then they are finally returned to you and lead off with the B+ "nice to see everyone and hang out" regular episodes instead.
I thought this week's was hilarious. (Start a new thread for it, yeah right, what am I some kind of scientist.) The title is very disturbing if you think about what Subway was fired for. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't looking forward to their next Big One though.
