a.) Cody's contract ran out at the end of 2021 and he couldn't come to an agreement with Tony Khan on a new one ($$ reasons?). Also TK has taken over all the booking by now so Cody wasn't involved in that aspect anymore. b.) He could come back to WWE at any time before/after Mania.
I believe the contracts for a lot of the "original" class of AEW talent are up soon and I wouldn't be surprised if the folks that are on the YouTube-only shows just don't have their contracts renewed. There are a LOT of people that work there and with all the big name talent from the past year+, I don't think, say, Joey Janella is much of a loss...

They could also shift to pay-per-appearance deals and stick with AEW but take more independent bookings. Peter Avalon's done this already.

Hell, if Bret showed up just one time on WWE programming, it would be huge. Hopefully if the Bret Hart DVD is put out, he's actually on it. wouldn't make much sense otherwise.
