You wanted the best, you got... Out of Context Quote of the Week.

"They're plump, ripe, and priced to move. Get your fat Samoan today!" (Packman V2)

So, just one day after Andy MacPhail (sports.espn.go.com) hits the bricks, manager Dusty Baker will not be brought back (sports.espn.go.com).

Dusty?

And MacPhail even admitted his tenure was... how you say, more like MacFail?

Doesn't necessarily sound like Hendry's gone, seeing as he did get an extension, but this can't bode well for him. How's this playing over there?

Both were considered foregone conclusions (MacPhail to a lesser extent than Dusty).

Given that Hendry has only two years left on his contract, it's tough to see him trying to build for a future, as opposed to trying to make a quick fix (like the Cubs typically do). That makes a big difference in the type of manager you bring in. If you are looking short term, a name like Lou Piniella makes sense (not figuring he's going to be around for a long time anyway). If you can truly build for the future, then a name like Joe Girardi (who did very well working with a young squad this year, and assuming he becomes available) makes more sense.

I haven't come up with an opinion on any of this worth sharing, except

how you say, more like MacFail

Yea, this isn't your problem, because you're not in Chicago and don't know, but about 5 million people have made the same joke in the last 24 hours and passed it off as cutting edge wit. I'd like to throttle them all.

Honestly, I don't even remember where I heard it, but even then it wasn't all that funny. At least not as funny as the "MacPhail-o-Meter".

Look, all I can say is - I am gonna be 49 in a week and I have never seen a pennant. My Mother, more rabid than me, is deal these past 13 years, and never saw a world series win.

I just hope my Daughter, now 19, isn't making the same post in 30 years.

Get a long term manager, clean house on the minors, and sign a few decent players and try and hang on to the good ones you have.

I can only ask for pitchers who can pitch DURING THE SEASON.

Did anyone hear this today? Did he sound as whacked as he does on Todd Wright's show?
