On the eve of LeBron's return to Cleveland as a member of the Heat, Yahoo! Sports has reported that Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert has paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to a Midwestern law firm to go over the Miami Heat's acquisition of the 25-year-old superstar with a fine-tooth comb, looking for evidence of tampering.
Certainly a better use of hundreds of thousands of dollars than getting fined $100,000 for a 22-paragraph Comic Sans MS letter. But anyone think they'll find any evidence of tampering? Or is it simply Gilbert being needlessly malicious?

I would think the Bulls have more of a solid case of wrongdoing on someone's part. Didn't it become obvious after a while that Wade and LeBron weren't ever interested in signing with Chicago, but they purposely tied up as much of Chicago's time as they could so that the Bulls couldn't devote their resources to signing anyone else? Of course, since no one could tangibly PROVE anything, seeking litigation on that would be a giant waste of time and money. Just like this Dan Gilbert claim.
And speaking of the big Miami/Cleveland game...does anyone else have a genuine fear that it could turn into a repeat of the Artest fiasco? All it takes is one lunatic/moron and LeBron REALLY put the screws to an already-suffering fanbase, so some idiot will probably walk into the game with a "nothing to lose" mentality. No matter how much security they have, I wouldn't bet against a couple of beers landing on LeBron's head and even though HE obviously wouldn't be one to fight back, that doesn't mean some other dope on the Heat wouldn't rush someone.

That's not tampering though. That Chicago continued to waste their time is their own fault. If Miami was having discussions with LeBron while he was under contract, that gets into the integrity of the game. They slapped Cuban with a fine for mentioning something on Twitter last season, if Miami had worked out an agreement, fines/loss of draft picks/suspensions of executives who have left jobs via fax in the past are all possible.
Yeah the crux of it is that tampering is only when a team contacts a player (or his agent) before he is officially a free agent. It's obvious that LeBron and Wade were planning a team-up for years, but players talking to each other is okay. Was Pat Riley secretly giving information to Wade to pass on to LeBron? It's possible, but good luck proving it.

My understanding is that players absolutely can tamper and have it be a violation; it's just much harder to prove.

I am on the "I hope LeBron puts 60 on them bandwagon." due to childlike behavior of the owner and the entire fanbase. The owner has wasted money that he could have used to get some like Stoudamare or anyone of the other good free agents that was out there to at least soften the blow. Yet, he cries poor while being ready to hand over the biggest NBA contract of all time. The fanbase has every right to feel slighted, but this revenge mentality is crazy. Of course, this is Cleveland where tackling a child in a Pats' jersey is acceptable. I hope the Heat blows the doors of them and go off on a 10 game win streak. I felt bad for Cavs' fans when he announced he was leaving, now I am hoping they lose their franchise rights, so they can have something else to bitch about. If some fan does try to do something, I say tazer first and ask questions later.

1) I have never heard Dan Gilbert cry poor. Wow.
2) Who was available after "The Decision"? Nobody worth throwing a large pile of money at, that's who. Stoudemire signed with New York beforehand, so not sure where you're going with that. Prior to that, I give the Cavs' front office a lot of credit for getting what they could given what they had to start with. Good luck attracting free agents when your marquee player won't commit long-term.

It was a kid in a Jets jersey, *nobody* thinks this is acceptable, and according to onlookers it was an extremely drunk fan who fell over onto the kid. But hey, go ahead and stick to the sensationalized media story.

Actually, that makes it PERFECTLY acceptable. :)
P.S. Go Pats!

Hope the tampering investigation goes better for Cleveland than the actual game did. If this was supposed to be Cleveland's NBA Finals, I'd hate to see how they treat a preseason game.
Cleveland fans have nothing to be hopeful for after that performance. Their team has zero heart.
The cold hard fact for the Cavs and their fans is they are shit without LeBron. They can win games here and there, but probably not enough at least in the Eastern Conference to get to the playoffs. I did love LeBron coming out to the Imperial March which completes his turn from the Chosen One to the Dark Lord of the Sith. I guess that makes his Cavs' run, his prequels and his Miami run, the original trilogy.

I guess the nWo theme, "Rockhouse", wasn't available.

Originally posted by CRZJust in case we were concerned that there might be after-effects of Thursday's game, consider tonight's result:
Cavaliers 95 Timberwolves 129
I'm pretty sure Kevin Love had more boards than the entire Cavs team for most of three quarters.
(This could also have NOTHIN' to do with that, but I was really proud of that Wolves score.)
Seems like we should start getting used to stat lines like that when the T'Wolves play bad teams. Kevin Love is completely out of control. Here's his stat line from that game:
All of that in 32 minutes. 5-5 for 3! 19 rebounds!! It's not like he's an unheralded player or anything, but he's performing like an MVP candidate right now. I never thought I would say this but I might have to add Timberwolves' games to my must-watch list*.

* That list currently consists of the games of Hawks, Heat, Thunder, and Clippers, a pretty surprising list as it stands already.

Cleveland would be able to sign 2 max players, as they could sign Bosh or Wade and then sign LeBron, as you can go over the cap to re-sign your own players. This does potentially short-circuit the Knickerbockers master plan, thus it is amusing.
