According to an article at ESPN.com, Randy Lerner is ready to give ol' Butch the boot ... can't really say I blame him. Any Browns fans wanna speculate as to the buzz going on in the city?
I'm not a Cleveland guy, but some of us at work went out for a few beers with the guy who has our laundry contract here at Penn State. He sells us machines, sets up the cycles and temperatures, and makes sure grass stains and the like get out of football uniforms. He does work for a bunch of college and NFL teams. According to him (he spent the previous week in Cleveland working in the equipment room), Butch hasn't even been around the team much, and rumor in the locker room was that he was looking to go back to Florida to take the Dolphins job. I'm not sure if he's not going to practice, but he said that the equipment manager hadn't talked to him in two weeks (which is odd) and the whole situation was pretty chaotic.
Take it for what it's worth, but I'm wouldn't be surprised if it was the truth, if only because this guy knows some (ok, most) of Penn State football's dirty secrets (and we have some BEAUTIES), and I'm sure most equipment rooms are the same, in terms of gossip, complaints, and loose lips.

I seriously doubt that Butch Davis is the answer to all of the Dolphins' problems. But then again, this is the Dolphins we're talking about.

What doesn't make sense to me is why would a pro team want a coach who's been fired after basically failing at another pro gig?

I hope he's gone by the end of the season. He's certainly lost the fans, that's for sure.

That didn't stop them from hiring Wannestadt, did it? But to be fair, maybe they think Davis sucks in Cleveland like Belichick, and turns it around with his next team after leaving the Browns.
Still waiting patiently for Game 8 of the Red Sox/Yankee series.
Davis is GONE at the end of the year. He has to be. That was shameful.
And no, I am not going to take the "injuries" deal into account because at the beginning of the year he was trumpeting how the team depth was so much improved this year. If our depth was so good, SOMEBODY could have stepped up.
Bah.

The South Florida newspapers seem to be more convinced that Davis will end up with the University of Florida job, which makes more sense than him going to another NFL team.

After this weekend it looks like he lost his defense as well.
Whatever (the poster not the term) agree, that really was crazy. How do you allow 58 points from the Bengals. It wasn't that long ago I don't think the Bengals could score 58 points in total for an entire half of a season. They shouldn't be scoring in a combined home and away division tabulation let alone a single game... Bad Stuff

Chris Mortensen (sports.espn.go.com) is reporting that Davis has been fired while Fox (msn.foxsports.com) is reporting that he has resigned. Either way, looks like he's gone.

Davis resigned, and Randy Lerner paid him his contract value. Terry Robiskie (Offensive Coordinator) will take over as interim head coach, and Ron Chudzinski (TE Coach) will take over as Offensive Coordinator. First step this winter will be to hire a GM, then let him put in a staff.
THANK GOD. If Davis had simply stuck to coaching and not been in charge of personnel, I have a feeling things would have turned out better. As it is, speculation has already begun 'round here. Will the Brownies try their darndest to lure Newsome or Savage from Baltimore? Or will they try to get Pioli from New England? Will they get Weis or Crennel from New England? They did state that they would be willing to wait until after the Super Bowl to get the right people, if that's what it takes.

Pioli has stated in the past week www.boston.com that he won't leave the Patriots before his contract expires after the NFL Player Disbursement Meeting coughDraftcough in April '06. I know Weis is the attractive pick because of his offensive wizardry, but I wanted Crennel for Giants coach last off-season and I'd think he would make the better head coach. Crennel has worked for Parcells and Belichick for 24 out of the last 25 years, so he has the defense down, and that sort of pedigree under a Walsh would have teams killing each other for a guy, so why they don't for Romeo is shocking. And for some reason I think Weis would be a Martz as a head coach: Brilliant offensive mind/coordinator, very dangerous to himself with no one to reign him in.
Money is no replacement for the love of a good woman. Real estate, especially in the current marketplace, is another story.
That's the silliest post I have seen in quite a while. Every media outlet is praising the Eagles as the best team in the NFC. They are praising the terrific defense and the way the offense has continued without their superstar McNab.
